vision distortion "attacks"

by melodydawnrose, Apr 17, 2007 12:00AM
Since i was probably 5 or so.. i've had these strange "attacks" where my depth perception would go screwy.. its almost like i could feel them coming on.. i would look at my hand or at some object and it would get big and small really fast.. at first if i looked at an object or at the wall at the right distance it would look normal.. but after a few minutes everything would be getting big and small.. alot of times it'de happen at night.. and even when i closed my eyes i could "feel" it and almost.. kinda see it when i thought or visualized.. and it would usually last about 10 to 20 minutes and slowly go away.. i remember alot of times when i was watching a teacher or focusing on someone and looking at them for a while it would send me into it.. their head would get small and large really fast.. then eventually everything would get big and small..

Sometime it would happen almost every day for a while and then sometimes i dont have an "attack" for as long as six months or so.. I've been looking up what it could be and the only thing i can partialy relate to is metemorphopisia or maybe ocular migrains? im not sure..

other vision problems i have that seem strange is the constant visual snow.. which i hear theres no treatment for.. and also sometimes when ide be walking somewhere it was like these green/ multi colored dots would slowly eat away my vision from the center and out until i was totaly blind for a few seconds and then it would slowly come back within 20 seconds or so..

i asked my eye doctor about these symptoms and he had no answer.. i told a doctor about the vision distorting and she actually suspected me of having schizopherenia.. and anyone i've asked about it hasn't experienced it so i cant relate to anyone about it.

if anyone could give me any suggestions of what could be happening or atleast relate to what im experiencing i would be SO thankful!

Hi I cant relate to what youre saying but have you seen a specialist not just an opthomologist.  My husband was diangosed with an eye problem but instead of a regular opthomoglist we went to a group of specialist in the NY area that are tops in their field and encounter all types of eye related problems. They train more speicfically in the eye area. If you want more info let me know.
