vision problems under fluorescent lighting

vision problems under fluorescent lighting

I recently had double cataract surgery and I spend 4 hours a day under strong fluorescent lights. The activity requires strong brain and vision concentration and I am having much trouble. my eyes don't always see what I need to see and my brain doesn't always think correctly. I transpose numbers and my thoughts become unclear. Is there any connection?

Depends on how "recent" you had surgery. It often takes several months to have your eyes see a new way and work together. Also your cataracts acted like an internal pair of sunglasses so now your eye is geting much more light than it has for years. You may want to have a tint on your glasses and if its a big problem even wear a visor or hat under that type of  light. Discuss with your surgeon

I too have recently had the cataract surgery for both eyes.  I am generally very satisfied.  But when I play bridge in one facility with office-type, overhead fluorescent lighting, I get uncomfortable.  It's somewhat undescribable but I dont perform as well as usual, get a mild headache and generally get edgy.  Is it the lighting ?

There are other variables you would need to consider. So I can't tell.
Maybe the people at that venue make you uncomfortable.

This year I also had surgery for cataracts in both eyes.  I received the oft-maligned reStor lenses and have had stunning success with them, but for about four months after the operation, I did notice a tendency towards some odd shimmering in the first eye only under when I was pharmacy-type fluorescents.  It gradually just went away.

Give yourselves some more time.  I like Dr. Hagan's suggestion of a visor, too.
