vitrectomy surgery

What can I expect to go through.  What are the percentages on having good vision afterwards?  Is there much pain with this type of surgery?

Vitrectomies are done for many different problems, and I don't think that it's possible to generalize about your recovery or your vision afterward.  I had a vitrectomy two years ago to peel an epiretinal membrane.  The surgery was not painful, and I could easily read the 20/20 line (and more) a couple of months later.  But acuity might not be as good in some cases of detached retina.  The best source of what to expect post-vitrectomy would be your surgeon.  Best wishes for a good outcome.

What do you mean by "growing concern"? Do you mean the fact that doctors don't tell them enough about recovery?

The commercial site you referred to recommends a commercial product. No word about cost/rental/purchase. I have emailed them. That equipment looks like a dream come true--but cost must be high and insurance does not usually pay. I would loved to have had something like this during my five surgeries, which generally required face down for 1-5 days.

Not everyone can afford this. There are several sites with cheaper/less comfortable options. The most affordable options are at vitrectomy solutions.com. It is a commercial site with educational value as well.

Not all vitrectomies require weeks of face down. Patients can find broader vitrectomy education at vitrectomysolutions.com, which is also a commercial site

One day, I will put together a list of educational sides. Your new one here will certainly be included.

I am not being negative. I want to include information for all patients.

I urge others to join the discussion and make other suggestions. We need to help each other, because most retinologists offer little help or education, and because we can help each other with support.

Thanks
5 retina surgeries.
