vitreous humour

Hello Doctor,

I'm just curious to know if the virteous humour can abnormally exit the eyes (causing the eyes to get smaller) due to disease, infection, or mechanical forces.I have a head fracture that deformed my cribriform plate and have a fracture that extends down my middle left eye orbit.Doctors don't know why theyre getting smaller (i.e. low eye pressure and physically smaller). I know certain retina cells make the virteous humour. Is there some type of condition or mechanical force that may cause them to halt virteous production or lose volume in the eye (i.e. some type of damage to surrounding tissues that may interfere with the eyes receiving nutrients, oxygen, etc.). I'm not looking for a definite diagnosis, but  theoretical possibilities. I have never received any puncture to the actual eyes. Thanks in advance for your response.

Thanks for your informative response, Doctor. As of now I don't have any retinal detachment that I know of, only occasional flashes, dark blue "sparks", and dark grey dots that appear and then dissapear quickly. As well as progressive shrinking that started two years ago and seems to be accelerating daily this month.

Hypothetically, if I have a ciliary body detachment and/or cyclodialysis cleft, what respective tests for these conditions can help diagnose them? (e.g. eye ultrasounds, mri, blood tests?). If the ciliary production is not working properly is there any medication/vitamins/diet that can help make it better, even a little bit? Thanks

The vitreous is not replaced. I assume you do not have a retinal detachment or a rupture of the globe. The eye's IOP is maintained by the production of aqueous humor by the ciliary body and out flow through the trabecular meshwork.  IOP can be low by decreased production by the ciliary body and a possibility in your case may be a ciliary body detachment.  Or increased outflow due to a cylcodialysis clef.
