white area in retinal periphery

white area in retinal periphery

Dr Hagan,

At my last visit, my ophthalmologist noted "an area of depigmentation" in the nasal-superior portion of my peripheral retina. He found this during the scleral depression portion of my exam. I asked about it and he said it was flat and that I had "normal findings". No follow up was suggested. The more I thought about it, the more I wondered what it was...

1. Is this a typical description of white without pressure?
2. Is there an obvious difference between a depigmented area and WWOP?
3. Assuming it is a depigmented area, how common are pigment irregularities in the peripheral retina?
4. Any ideas? I am 36, some lattice, -1.0

Thanks.

I had my eyes examined today by my favorite retinal Eye MD. He said the same thing. Peripheral retinal changes like cobblestone, reticular are normal. WWOP is not a big deal. I have lattice also. So do 8% of people. If you were told not to worry like I was then share our good news.
