why can't I see even large print close up after cataract surgery

I had cataract surgery in both eyes. It has been one month since my last surgery. My doctor put in the lense for seeing far, the original kind, and said I might have to wear readers as I aged. I am 42 now. Before surgery, I could see close up and had 20/20 vision. Driving at night was the only real problem. Although I am still 20/20 for distance post surgery, I now have to use 2.0 readers just to adust the thermostat in my house or to even see the icons on my computer. I have spoken to other people who have had the same lense implanted at cataract surgery and none of them need readers at all. Yesterday, I had to put on readers to flip through a photo album of 4x6 photos. What is going on? My doctor ignored my concerns at my follow-up appointments. Is my vision going to stay like this forever? If it is, I wish I had my cataracts back. Please advise.

This is normal for a standard IOL.  This is why patients get multifocal or accommodative IOL.
