At your age, things like arthritis and other degenerative diseases would be unlikely.  An x-ray would be helpful to rule this out.

One consideration would be patellofemoral syndrome - which is caused by changes in the patellofemoral joint.  This is the most common cause of knee pain in those under the age of 45.  It is commonly found in runners or others who use their knees repeatedly.  Four x-ray views of the knee are normally recommended for evaluation to ensure there isn't anything else going on.

Treatment would include physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, or a knee brace.

You can also consider an orthopedic evaluation if the symptoms don't improve.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Yes i went to my physician today and he took the X-Rays and they came up fine, actually he told me the same thing also.

Any idea how long this pain will last or can last?

I will be doing the exercises as the physician told me.

Thanks for all your help.
