Lower Abdominal Pain

Lower Abdominal Pain

I have had mild lower abdominal pain for the past 2 1/2 weeks.  The pain feels exactly like menstrual cramps but they are not.  The pain started off and on but is now almost constant.  It is relieved by Advil, but I'm concerned that it still persists.  No other symptoms.

Difficult to say without examination.  There can be many reasons for the pain.  This can include gastroenteritis, diverticulitis, appenditicis, irritable bowel disease, ovarian cysts - just to name a few.

I would be seen by your personal physician.  Tests to consider would be an abdominal/pelvic CT scan.  If negative, you can consider a transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate the ovaries or a colonoscopy to evaluate the colon.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I am 54 years old and I only have my left ovary.  My right ovary was removed when I was in my 20's because of a huge cyst that diseased it. My problem is for a week now I have been having pains on my left side that seems to be coming from my only ovary.  It hurts more when I lay down and I can push on it and it also hurts.  Does anybody have this problem or can tell me if they know what this is?
