Muscle and tingling pain in both legs and feet since one month

Since last one month, I’ve been having pain (on and off) in my legs and feet.  It started off suddenly one evening, and hasn’t subsided since.  Sometimes the pain is in the morning, and totally subsides at night, but some days, it’s totally the opposite.  I feel it is mostly muscular pain, but occasionally experience some sort of a tingling / pricking sensation as well.   I had been to the doctor about five days after these symptoms and based on my explanation of symptoms, he ordered me multiple blood  tests – one for blood counts, kidney, liver, triglycerides, sugar, thyroid, B-12 and others.  After the results came out,  I spoke with the doctor, and he mentioned that all the numbers were okay, but my aldolase number was a little higher than normal (it was 15) and the creatinine kinase level was normal (value of 77).    He also asked me to follow up 4 – 6 weeks later to recheck the aldolase levels.

I am really getting concerned and getting scared of what this could be based on the results above.    Could you please provide me any guidance on what I should do?  Could this be the result of any muscular injury or tear?   I do not have any history in my family that I know of that has any muscular disorders.

I’m 40 yrs old and a father of two young kids (6 yrs and a new born).   Please advise.

Thanks
Roger.

Hi Roger,
I am sorry to heatr you aren't feeling well, and I am sure that your symptoms are especially frusrating when you are trying to keep up with the life of having 2 young children.
The fact that all of your other blood tests, including the CK were normal is reassuring.  I would follow up as suggested at the 4 week mark to have your aldolase rechcecked.  If you are still having symptoms at that point and no diagnosis, you might consider asking about a referral to neurology to rule out a myopathy.  Causes of high levels of aldolase include damage to muscles, hepatitis, mononucleosis, muscular dystrophy, myocardial infarction (heart attack), and polymyositis.
Your personal physician obviously knows your history better than I do, and has examined you, so I would take his/her suggestions about the need for further investigation/referral as more relevant to your situation that what I am able to provide here.
Best of luck,
JMK MD
