Prolonged nasal congestion that is no an allergy

Prolonged nasal congestion that is no an allergy

Hello. My daughter is 10 years old and has had nasal congestion for 5 months (maybe even longer). A month ago we took her to an ENT specialist and a blood test was conducted. No allergies were found. It is now starting to affect her during school hours unable to concentrate at school. She sleeps well at night and says that she can breathe through her nose. She doesn't get headaches (I had sinusitis at age 12 and had headaches to accompany the nasal congestion). She doesn't sneeze and is not prone to nosebleeds. She constantly snorts air out of her nose and tries to blow her nose a lot. There is mucus in her nose always. There is no fever or coughing or aching joints. The ENT specialist gave us nasal Avamys nasal spray and Fess nasal spray to use. No change in her condition after 3 weeks. I started putting Vicks Vapour Rub on her forehead, cheeks, nose and chest nightly about a week ago. Again, no change in her condition. Please we would value your advice. Thank you. Cielito

Hi Cielito,
My advice would be to follow up with ENT and make sure they know that there has been no improvement.  At this point, depending on her complete history and physical exam, along witht he fact she she is not getting any better, they may consider some imaging studies (CT scan for example).  This may show if she does have chronic sinusitis, or maybe has nasal polyps or something that could be causing her problems.  This kind of thing is their specialty, so I would take their advice, or find aother ENT for a second opinion if you are not happy with their care.
Best of luck.
