Salty taste in mouth

Salty taste in mouth

For about the past 2 weeks, I have had a salty taste in my mouth.  I have never experienced this before. I take Allegra daily for both food and environmental allergies.  For the past few weeks, my allergies have been quite bad resulting in hives and ecsema (eczema), cause unknown.  This is the first time in many years that the hives have reappeared.  I have never had this salty taste.

I have B-12 defiency and recieve injections monthly.  I have low Vitamin D, presently not being treated.  I take protonix daily for acid reflux which has also been acting up, and medications for depression.  I also have fibromyalgia.

I am 55 and on Social Security disability.  I don't know which Dr. I should see since I have so many.

Thank you for your help.

Things that can cause a change in the taste would be post-nasal drip as well as GERD.  If the allergies have been especially bad, this can add to the post-nasal drip.

I would consider a sinus X-ray or CT scan to evaluate for sinusitis.  Treatment with antibiotics and/or nasal steroid sprays can be considered if this is present.

If negative, GERD can be evaluated for with an upper GI series.

You can consider an ENT evaluation for the sinusitis, or a GI evaluation for GERD.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
