Sebacious Cysts on Scalp

Sebacious Cysts on Scalp

I've had cysts on my scalp since I was a teenager. I have been in on three seperate occasions to have them removed yet they keep coming back. I believe the count is up to 8 on my scalp at this very moment and I will be going back on Tuesday, January 22 to have two more removed. As far as I know, no one else in my family seems to have this problem. They seem to start out really small and then they continually get bigger until they are very noticable. Also, they occasionally seem to have wild thick hair that grows from the bigger ones. I made the mistake of pulling on one of the wild ones before and felt a pop and then wetness on my head. I had accidently pulled it out. The actual cyst has the likeness of a shrimp and smells REALLY FOUL! It turned out that it was infected and I wound up taking antibiotics to help clear it up.

What I'm wondering is whether anyone else washes their hair daily and uses hair products religously? When I was a younger teen I washed my hair at night and then again in the morning I don't remember having but one of these things on my head. Are any of you other "knotheads" overweight? I've also noticed that as I get older and more overweight that I seem to be getting more of them.  I would seriously like to figure out what is causing these "things" so I can stop them from coming back and I would like to keep my daughter from getting them as well.

Thanks,
Knothead

obesity can contribute to increasing estrogen which can change the skin and possibly contribute to increasing these developing.

the right hair cleansers are important.  ask your dermatologist to take a look and see your skin type and suggest the right ones
