Swallowing plastic

Swallowing plastic

I was wearing a dental flipper, 2 inch by 2 inch by 1/8 of an inch thick plastic mouth piece when I went to bed last night. I woke up this morning with out it. I'm afraid I have swallowed it! What do I do? Is it dangerous? I've eaten breakfast.

If it is made solely of plastic, it generally would pass through the digestive system.  However, depending on the size, there is a chance it may be get lodged.

A plain film can first identify whether you've swallowed it.  For more detail, a CT scan can be considered.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

clark i would think that it being 2"X2" you would have choked and woke up. it is common for dental appl. worn to bed to be found in the covers, under bed, somewhere in the room. that is unless you have a dog inside--they love to eat these things!

I would like to hear the outcome of this issue.  I have a friend who has swallowed dental fixtures a couple of times and has been fine, just upset that he lost an expensive piece of equipment!
