Sweet smellin breath

I notice that my husband has very sweet smelling breath often.  If he has had a cocktail sometimes it is stronger.  I told him I thought that it may be a sign of Diabetes.  Is this right?

There can be several diseases that can lead to a change in breath.  Uncontrolled diabetes, liver, and kidney diseases are all possible.

Blood tests can be done to evaluate for each of these possibilities.  This would include a sugar test, urine test (looking for ketones), liver function tests and kidney function tests.  I would recommend this course of action to rule out these possibilities.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
