Thyroid Disorder and Trying to Conceive

Thyroid Disorder and Trying to Conceive

hi, I am 28 yrs. old and my husband is also 28 yrs old.  We have been trying tp get pregnant for 2 months now.  I just recently came off the pill this past October after 11 yrs.  My husband had Graves disease when he was 16 yrs. old and he under went radiation idione treatment and went into a thyroid storm and survived.  Anyway, ever since then he has hypothyroidism and takes Synthroid daily.  He gets blood work checkup every 6 months.  Other than that, we are both prefectly healthy.  Will him having hypothyroidisim affect our chances of getting pregnant?  Or lessen our chances of conceiving?  Or will it possibly take longer for us to conceive?  Its just that it is not that much info on the internet on male ferility and hypothyrodisim and just anxious too along with being scared that we can't get pregnant.  Thank you for your time

Thyroid disorders in the female certainly has effects on conceiving.

Although possible, I am less sure about thyroid disorders in the male affecting fertility to the same extent.

With the history of irradiation and thyroid disorders, I would obtain a thyroid panel as well as testosterone level.

That being said, I do not have much information on thyroid dysfunction and male infertility.  You can discuss this information with an endocrinologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
