Who should I see?

Who should I see?

I was recently hosptialized in China for a viral/bacterial respiratory infection and their blood tests produced some strange results.  The Dr's parting words to me were, "You aren't healthy, get to a Dr when you return to the states."  The abnormal results by the end of my stay were:

WBC - 2.2 (at highest, they did 4 tests)
Lym# - .1
Lym% - 6.9
Mid% - 7.8
Grn% - 85.3
RBC - 3.5
HGB - 94
HCT - .294
MCHC 321
MCH 26.8
PCT - .8
MPV - 6.4
PDW - 33.9%
ESR - 34
Glucose 162

I have been checked out for autoimmune diseases like Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis in the past, and Drs determined I have neither.  I have lots of signs of autoimmune probs - developed lots of allergies and food intolerances, asthma, B12 deficiency.  I was also recently told I have low blood sugar (though above #'s seems to indicate that my blood sugar was high despite not having eaten for several days).  Are any of the numbers above alarming?  And if so, could it just be from the infection I had there?  If not, what type of doc should I see?  What things should I be concerned/asking about?

Thanks

The low white count is concerning.  The correct referral to see would be a hematologist.  Things like HIV as well as various forms of leukemia should be evaluated for.  Your blood count (HCT) is also low, which may or may not be connected to the low white count.

I certainly would discuss these findings with your personal physician as well as obtain a referral to a hematologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

low WBC often accompanies viral infections. I'd assume the first step would be to repeat the tests now that you are home and time has passed since the infection.
