child has a bump on skull under skin at his temple

My son has just turned 7 years old. He has a bump that is just under the skin right at his right temple. It has been there for a few years now. We asked his doctor what it was a few years ago and he said it may have been from some type of fall related injury that has since calcified. It is very smooth and is about the size of a very small egg but takes up his entire temple, he never complains about it. It seems to be getting bigger but I'm not sure if it just appears this way because he is growing. I can't recall any serious injury that would have caused this bump. When he was about 3 years old he went through these episodes that appeared to be seizures, he would just stare around the room very slowly while he was awake and then he would do the same in the middle of sleeping. It was as though someone turned a switch off and then turned it back on and he would "wake up" and would be very confused but would then be ok. These usually lasted for a few minutes. We took him to the same doctor but he had no explanation for this. I even have it videotaped. They lasted for about 1-2 months then suddenly stopped. I don't know if these two things are related as the bump seemed to appear at the same time these "episodes" started happening. His doctor said we could do an x-ray to rule out anything but it fell to the wayside as he never complains about it. I am only now concerned as this morning he walked straight into the edge of a wall and hit his head on his temple and it seemed to get very large. After a few minutes with ice he said he was ok. Any insight as to what this might be would be greatly appreciated!

The bump sounds like somthing that's been there for years, and is unlikely to be growing, perhaps it's a scar or dermatofibroma, both benign.  Ask your doc to take a look if you think it's getting bigger.

The 3 year old episodes sound like absance seizures (petit mal).

Not likely related to the bump.  I don't think an X-ray would have helped.  Perhaps an MRI of the brain.  Or EEG shile he was having the episode.

Kids walk into walls all the time, if he seems more and more discoordinated, bring him in for an exam and ask if he should have his head scanned (CT or MRI).
