glucose normal range

glucose normal range

i had a blood test done last week. all results were normal, except the glucose. mine was 100 after fasting over night. the labs range was 66-99. i was recently on prednisone for a sinus inf for a week. 5 days later i had the blood tests. what is the normal range some say anything below 115. some say 99 & below. this is the first time , my glucose level was at 100. i'm 35 a little overweight. type 2 diabetes runs in my family after 55.    does this mean i have pre-diabetes

Typically, you would like the fasting glucose to be under 100.  Prednisone can raise the sugar levels transiently.

I would consider repeating the tests in the few weeks.  If the glucose level is between 100-126, impaired glucose tolerance (i.e pre-diabetes) can be suspected - especially if diabetes already runs in your family.  Increasing exercise and weight loss will help with this.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I just had a fasting blood test for diabetes and the reading was 103.  What does that mean?  I have to go for a repeat test in 2 weeks Why? I have heard so many numbers that are supposedly normal.  My doc said mine was high.
Thanks
