hernia

I have about a one inch or smaller rt. iniguinal indirect hernia that was discovered during exporatory laperscopic surgery 2 months ago.  Since then I've felt it more.  I feel it twinge on and off daily, and often feel it when I stand or cross my right leg.  I'm planning on doing an IVF to try to get pregnant soon.  It doesn't bother me too bad (just more than before) but wonder what pregnancy will do to it.  Is is safe to try to get pregnant or better to repair the hernia now?  Thank you.

It is difficult to make specfic recommendations without examination nor reviewing your record.  There is a possibility that the hernia may worsen while pregnant.  Given this possibility, it may be reasonable repair the hernia sooner rather than later.

I would discuss this option with your personal surgeon and OB.

Of course, the extent of the hernia would also determine whether surgery is needed.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
