razor burn

razor burn

Yes Doctor i went and got a haircut on Saturday 7/14/07 and this past monday while i was at work i notice some razor burn on the back of my head towrds the bottom of my hairline. I figured it was from the clippers. I get theback of my head shaved. It looks like red patches. It doesnt look like a rash or anything and it doesnt itch or really burn. What  can i put on it to make it go away. Also, this might sound like a weird question but is there any risk for anything from sharing earphone ear pieces. Today at work some young guy approached me with some music that he was selling and he has all the cds he was selling downloaded in his ipod so that you can sample it before you buy it. Without thinking i put one of the ear pieces in my ear for no more than 10-20 seconds. As soon as i got back to work i took a wet paper towel and cleaned out my ear maybe 5 minutes later. I dont know where those ear pieces have been and i wanted to know if i should be worrying about that. Thank you doctor.

Sometimes irritation of the hair follicles can occur if the hair is cut too short.  Normally, this is a self-limited process that should resolve.

However, there is also the chance of folliculitis - which is a type of skin infection.  Antibiotics may be needed if that is the case.

Regarding the ear - observing for any signs of irritation or infection should be considered just to be safe.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

thanks for your reply doc. Im confused a little bit though. do you mean that i should follow up with my doctor to get my hairline looked at or to get my ear looked at. My ear feels fine i cleaned it out pretty good with water and alcohol and i just figuered that i would keep an eye on it for a while but i doubt that i will get an infection or anything.
