risk for rabies exposure?

risk for rabies exposure?

I was working in my attic yesterday and I came across several bats. I didnt physically come into contact with the bats, but they did fly around and I was not wearing a mark to filter the air that I was breathing. Do you feel that my exposure is high? Do you recommend that I get the vaccine?

Thanks

Almost all cases of rabies comes from a bite.  In rare cases, it can be transmitted via transplantation of tissue from a donor with unrecognized rabies.  I am not aware of cases of airborne exposure.

If there is a possibility of a bite, then I would consider rabies prophylaxis.  If not, then the possibility of rabies is less likely.

I would discuss this with your personal physician.

Followup with your physician is essential.
