sour taste in mouth all the time

sour taste in mouth all the time

I have been having a strange taste in my mouth, like sour apple almost all the time for several weeks now. I dont know what it could be or if I should be worried. In the last few weeks I have had no real change in diet. I have not been sick with a cold or anything, but I do get some infrequent nasal congestion. I brush my teeth regularly and have not had any dental issues. I feel like I just noticed this one day. I dont really notice it when I eat and I seem to notice it less when my mouth is closed. When I do notice it, it seems to be coming from the back of my mouth. I do drink way to much caffeine, much from diet sodas. When I first noticed this I thought it was just an after taste from the diet mountain dew.
I know this sounds ridiculous but what could it be? Hopefully not a sign of anything serious.

GERD and post-nasal drips are the most common causes for symptoms like this.

Obtaining an upper GI series as well as treating GERD with PPIs can be considered.  If post-nasal drip is suspected, a sinus CT can be done to image the problem, as well as a nasal steroid spray, can be discussed with your personal physician.

A referral to an ENT or GI physician can also be discussed.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
