torn gastroc

I tore my gastroc six months ago. I had an MRI and did not have surgery to repair it, as the MRI did not show the tear for some reason. My doctors agree that I shreaded the muscle. Now, my leg is deformed. You can plainly see where the muscle detached (big dent), and the bottom of my leg is lumpy. I have been working on massage and getting the lumps out, but my mid-calf looks even more deformed all the time. Is there anything I can do about this? Can it be fixed at all? I am active, and it is still very tender.

a gastrocnemius tear would show up.  Perhaps you had a peroneal tendon rupture, which is not necessary for proper leg function, but that wouldn't be tender 6 months later.  Have another orthopedic sports medicine doctor examine you.

as far as i know, a gastro tear will show on mri and needs to be surgically repaired. if you had a partial tear, that may explain what you are saying, but i believe that it should still be surgically repaired and then rehabbed. now that this much time has gone by, i don't think it can be corrected.
