4 year old with Chronic fever for 3 months

by mel7701, Apr 30, 2008 06:09PM
My 4 yr old has been having chronic fever for 3 months. It started in February with a trip to the ER with a 105 temp. He was diagnosed with the flu. Since then he has had a fever atleast every week maybe if we are lucky every other. He has been through 3 times so far of blood work the first one taking 4 vials 2nd taking 2 and the third taking 6. They have done CBC's and Urine cultures and also blood cultures. They did a chest xray and that came back normal. They said his wbc was high and his rbc was low. So he is anemic but they have not figured out what it is yet. Please help I am seriously frustrated. The DR said he might need an echocardiogram. I have been to the dr every week with no answers. Can you please tell me what it might be?

My 3 year old is also having high recurring fevers for the past few months.  They seem to come every 2-4 weeks, lasting about 2 days and with no other symptoms except for maybe a headache (I think just due to the high fever) and maybe wanting to sleep a bit more (also fever related).  His pediatrician is working with me on this and I have brought him there in full fever swing and she has examined him and found nothing wrong except for the fever.  We also went for 2 rounds of blood tests so far...once while just coming down from the fever and another 2 weeks later when "healthy".  Some levels were elevated (including white cell count), but only slightly and he tested negative for mono and strep.  Also, I have a 12 month old son who never "catches" these fevers even though the boys are on top of each other all the time.  I am so baffled and frustrated and I feel helpless!  I noticed on the other chain that some think it's adnoid (adenoid) or sinus related, but my guy doesn't seem to have that problem...I will ask his pediatrician just to make sure.  He will also probably have a urine culture done soon too.  He actually started to spike a fever again this morning even though you'd never know it by the way he's acting.  I'm waiting for his pediatrician to return my call as I write this.

I hope we all find an answer to this mystery soon.

Best of luck to you and please keep posted on anything new.

My 4 yr old daughter has also been having fevers about every 2-3 wks for the past 6-7 months.  No other symptoms either- except for lethargy and a horrible headache.  Good luck- hopefully they will figure it out soon.

Hello-I saw your post.  Did your doctor find out anything about your child's recurrent fevers?  My daughter, almost 5, has been having recurrent high fevers for the past 3 months.  We have had 3 blood tests, and no answers.  She had walking pneumonia one time, and a really bad cold the other time, but 2 other times she had no other symptoms, other than fever.  I don't know what to think!
