Help!

by ilavayou754, Dec 16, 2008 11:31PM
I am a adolescent teen. During my latest period, I noticed some discomfort in my vaginal area, including burning, itching, and swelling. I am fairly confident that is not a STD, as I have never had sex. As first, I thought I was allergic to my pad, but I have been using the same pad type since my very first period and have never experienced this kind of discomfort. I think I have a yeast infection but am afraid to go to my parents so they can take me to get tested. Any suggestions?

Whatever you do!!! DON'T TREAT YOURSELF. See a doctor. There is a great program called Planned Parenthood. I'm pretty sure you can get tested for STD's and/or yeast infection without needing to tell your parents.

Otherwise: Have you had an annual exam yet? You should every year after you start your period, even if you haven't had sex. Remind them that you are a woman now and do need to take care of yourself. Maybe they'll get you an appointment without you having to tell them the details.

Good luck!
