I found a lump

I'm 17 and I just noticed a small, red, inflamed lump in my armpit area. Its on my upper armpit, on more my arm. Its red, inflamed, and painful. It feels like there may be a pus pocket under the skin, and it worries me because two of my friends have recently been hospitalized for abscesses, and I'm afraid I may have one. Can anyone give me an idea of what it may be?
