Kidney or liver problems???

by dd1981, Jun 18, 2009 05:29PM
I have been a heavy drinker for 3 years. It started with a few beers, but in the past year I would drink about a pint 5 times per week. I also have been taking amphetamines during this time (prescribed) which I have never abused. I started a new medication on Sunday, drank Tuesday night, and had a BP of 180/100 and HR 72 last night, which is WAY higher than normal. I read that this could be leading to kidney disease/failure, which is a sign of liver damage. I am experiencing no other symptoms though. Today I did not take the new medication and my BP & HR have returned to their "normal" state of about 130/80 (this has been the "norm" my neurologist is okay with because of my meds). Should I be worried about liver cirrhosis? I have discussed my alcohol issue with my family and am aware that immediate cessation of alcohol is imperative and necessary. But now I’m just worried about what damage I’ve already done. I’m not even 30 years old and I don't have insurance. But should I be getting tests done or something???

I believe that getting an expert/Doctor opinion is best so you know the facts but I do believe that mixing drgs with Alcohol is not a good idea, as you have come here for other opinions it tells me you know this and are concerned,It is well know that drinking alcohol can raise blood pressure,Maybe take this as a call to moderate your Habits , see your Doctor to feel better that you have done no harm..Yet ..It is good you are asking for help Good Luck

It wouldn't hurt to have your liver functions checked. This is done with a blood test. If you are worried about your kidneys or liver, don't push it because you could be right and you don't want to find out  while lying in a hospital bed.
