Low white cell and high monocytes...15 yr old daughter

by dbkanne73, Jul 08, 2009 11:02PM
My 15 yr old daughter came down with cold like symptoms a couple of days ago. Cough, fever for 2 days, the highest being 102, and alot of blowing. Her white cell count normally runs in the lower normal 4.9-5.0. Yesterday it was 2.5. Her monocytes were high...I believe he said 18? He tested her for Mono and it was negative. He wasn't too concerned and of course I am. He just said that he sees this alot with viruses and they she needs to have a repeat CBC in the next week or 2 and make sure it is going up. Do you see this alot with viruses? Do you think she should be on an antibiotic? I am very concerned about the low wbc but high monocytes. What do teenage girls wbc normally run and with a virus and having a lower count to begin with would it be normal to drop to 2.5? Thanks in advance. Sorry if I rambled. Just worried.
