I am not an OB, so my insight into this question is limited.
There can be a significant range for the HCG doubling time in
normalNormal saline flush pregnancy. Here is a sample chart:
HCG Level Doubling Time
< 1200 48-72 hours
1200 to 6000 72-96 hours
> 6000 >96 hours
If there is evidence of a molar pregnancy, the HCG levels can be 4 to 100 times the upper limit of
normalNormal saline flush. This, combined with an ultrasound, would be a reasonable workup if this is suspected.
I cannot predict whether this is a molar pregnancy or not without examination.
