Sauna Burn

Hi, I'm 12 years old and I went to a party yesterday, and we went to a sauna room, when i tried to move, I got burnt badly by the hot rocks on my knee.

My questions are,
How long will it take my scar to heal? Or will it ever heal?
What recommendations should i get?

I need a response quick. Thanks a lot.

First of all, I'm sorry you got a burn.

Second, immediately tell mom and dad. This is something they should be aware of.

I believe you should see a physician IMMEDIATELY to document the injury and to get personal, one-on-one advice from a medical professional, M.D. type.

The chances are you will heal without any scar, but I would recommend mom take you to a dermatologist and an attorney, not necessarily in that order. The person who owns the sauna should eat the bill.

I heard that if you get a burn you should put mustard on it right away and it will prevent blister from forming

With due respects Ewcia, she SHOULD NOT be putting mustard on her burn. This well-intentioned, but not the right advice for a 12 year old.

We have not evaluated the depth or seriousness of the burn.

I believe the chances are this will not be serious, but this is a time for mom or dad to be involved.

In the remote possibility there is infection, we have a litigenous problem, because treatment has to be paid for, and that's why homeowner's purchase insurance.

there is no harm in putting mustard on a burn...it actually prevents early stage bacteria growth and eases the pain a lot...i WOULD reccomend putting mustard on the burn until she sees a doctor this is a home remedy that has been around for decades...and they teach this in first aid classes and 1st year med school... and ewcias advise is not bad...however the burn should be viewed...chance for infection is unlikely in burns at early stage...as im sure you know CAREGIVER...infection usually only occurs two to four days after burn...if her burn is that serious...and dont be telling people to go and get sue happy...this was obviously at fault of the person who got burned....not at fault of the sauna...and newmoonlover...put some mustard on it and if it is REALLY bad go see a doctor...if you think it will heal within three weeks just leave it alone...put neosporin once a day leave bandaged for 20 hours with four hours of "air time" and it will cost more money to get the attorney than to just pay a likley 100 dollar medical bill

Once again, the "advice" to put mustard on a burn, considering nobody has evaluated the burn, and the patient is 12 years old, is inappropriate.

Furthermore, there is something known as case law, and insurance law. In the case of a minor using the facilities of an adult the adult is responsible for injuries on the premises. Do not pass go. Do not collect two hundred dollars.

The advise "if it is really bad see a doctor" is absolutely positively inappropriate and irresponsible advice.

A physician should have been seen, and mom and or dad should be involved.

The burn may be minor, and heal rewadily, or it may not be. There is no way of knowing from an internet post.

Well, actually it's starting to heal. I just put aloe vera then it started getting smaller. But everytime when I bump something, it bleeds. But the blood is not soo bad. But thanks anyway for the response. Is there anyway to prevent a scar? Thanks.

caregiver222 it is people that go to the doctors for minor burns and such that cost our healthcare system millions of dollars a year...and can you think of how many times you have burnt or scraped yourself up and not gone to the doctor? i know i cant even count that many times...and im just fine...im a 3rd year student at UNSOM ...as a physician i would look at the burn to ensure no chances of infection...tell the patient to apply a burn ointment varying on size of burn...heck if its not bad id even say PUT MUSTARD ON IT...and see like i thought the burn is already healing...let me ask you...would you sue your friends in this case? well if not stop telling other people to...it is people like you who damage our system and raise our taxes...dumping our money into the county and state courts just to go and get a doctors bill paid that would cost 80 dollars if paid in cash... plz give medical advise...not legal advise... and if the burn were that bad i dont think this person would even be asking us on the internet about it...the parents probably know whats best to...you know wether to sue or not...or go to the doctors for that matter
