Strange lump/knot on the side of my neck right below my ear.

As the title states I have this knot-like thing on the side of my neck directly below my ear. It's been almost a month since it's appeared and it doesn't hurt unless you push on it. I've talked to about four different people and they all have different ideas on what it could be. Two of my friends say it's a swollen gland and that I'm probably getting sick. Both my parents say that glands aren't located there and their worried. I don't really want to go to a doctor out of fear that it is just a swollen gland and my family would waste around $100 for a doctor to tell us that nothings wrong. Any ideas on what it could be?

There are glands there...and it could be as simple as an infection...don't leave it untreated...it could be a stone in your salivary gland duct. A month is a long time to have a lump/knot that is not going away...go to the doctor, OK??
