Symptoms?

by Kellysue26, Nov 08, 2008 02:35PM
Dear Doc,

I am a 26 yr old female.  My most curious symptom is itchy underarms.  There is no rash associated with the itching.

The itching started more than a month before my most recent visit to my OBGYN.  My pap came back showing bacterial vaginosis and I was prescribed flagyl (metro...).  I finished my treatment as directed and about 2 weeks later, I developed symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection (extreme itch, thick white discharge).  (I attributed that to the flagyl.)  I called the med. asst. and she suggested Monistat 7.  6 days later, I called the doc back because my symptoms were only slightly better (itchy and red, but no discharge).  I was prescribed the one time pill to cure the yeast infection.  I took the pill on Thursday evening, but the itch is still present.  (I'm not sure if this is significant, but it is more noticeable when I am active.)

Could the itchy armpits be related to the vaginal symptoms?

Other possible symptoms: irritability (cyclical, but greater than I am used to), periodic deep-interior muscle aches in my arms

Other possible relevant/lifestyle information: I am married and although I had SEVERAL partners prior to my nuptials, I am completely faithful, so I am doubtful of any STD.  (We've been together since 07/2007.)  I was involved in a motorcycle accident 9/23/07 and was hospitalized for 3 wks.  I lost 50 lbs from 01/2007 to 06/2008 (little effort and most was lost after the accident). (I have wondered if there could be something wrong with my thyroid or something.)

That's a lot of info, but does any of it say anything about my itchy underarms?

Thanks,
K.

I am not a doc, and this might seem a little simplistic, but what about your underarm deoderant and/or anti-perspirant?  Could this be a sensitivity issue with the brand you are using as it mixes with your sweat, as you mention it itches more when you are active?
