mononucleosis and back pain

by zlobo, May 22, 2008 09:29AM
In October of 2007, my 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with mono.  Her symptoms were so severe that she had to miss three months of school and dropout of all extracurricular activities.  At about the same time, she began to develop severe musculoskeletal aches and pains in all her extremities.  Beginning in January of 2008, her pains seem to be concentrated up and down her spinal column especially under her right scapula and base of spine.  She has had x-rays and an MRI of her L-spine that do now show anything out of the ordinary.  She has also been seen by an orthopedic, pediatrician and a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who can not find anything wrong to explain the back pain.  The pediatric orthopedic surgeon upon looking at a flat panel of her abdomen did notice a significant amount of stool in her intestinal tract - more so than normal.  He suggested we flush her system out of all her stool and see if that would diminish or eliminate her back pain.  It does not seem to be helping.  What do I do?

This discussion is related to Mono and Upper Back Pain?.
