was this surgery done right?

by dandi, Apr 22, 2008 10:04AM
I'm not sure if I am posting in the right area, but here it goes...
I just had a baby 4 weeks ago, 2 weeks after I noticed that I had a hernia again, my third one the other 2 were umbilical hernias and this one was a ventral hernia located at the top of my belly.
I went into surgery with the same surgeon, never did he say anything about this one being different than the others...
I came out and my surgeon told my husband and I that he did a favor by cutting off some extra skin that I had from pregnancy, and that I now had an outie bellybutton.
Three days later I take off bandages and I am mortified. I have a huge insision going from the top of my belly where the hernia was down to and around my bellybutton. The insision is all ZIG ZAGGED all the way down, and my bellybutton is way out. You would have to see pics. Its disgusting, I have this thing sticking out of my body..
The surgeon did offer to cut it off for me "free of charge".. what ever..
Question, is this right? Did he have the right to cut off extra skin? I am so upset right now, I went in to him cause I trusted him, he did great with my 2 other surgerys, little insisions a few stiches. Then this one...
Can anyone give me some advice? Or even where I should post this if this isnt the right place to post. Thank you,

Holy moly! I would be ticked!! That doesn't sound right at all. Please follow up with another surgeon. Did you investigate this doctor prior or is he the one that did the previous surgeries? Do a search and see if he has other complaints against him. If you can't find him, let me know, I am good at that stuff!

Thanks for the reply, Yes he is the same surgeon that did my other two hernias, this is why I was so surprised. That and my OB referred this surgeon to me after the birth of my daughter in "06", so today I did look him up on our states court online thing, and yes there he is with 4 yes 4 malpractises. They were all dismissed with out prejuduis (sp?). I am calling another surgeon tomorrow for a second opinon, so hopefully I can get somewhere with him.

Wow I am glad you looked him up. I am sure doctors must have some malpractice cases cause some people just want easy money. I would definately continue with a second opinion cause something isn't right there. Best of luck to you!
