Getting off Zoloft or not to nurse?

Getting off Zoloft or not to nurse?

I'm the one that her husband left for another woman when I was 32wks pg. I've been on Zoloft for 3wks now and my doctor said I can't nurse unless I get off it. I'm really scared where it might take me mentally. I'm not even sure if its helping or not. I'm still dealing with alot with him stopping by, helping out, and then thowing it in my face that he's going off to meet her.  I'm terrified of the post partum depression too. I really want the best start for my lil girl by nursing and creating that bond...even if it's only a week or two. Should I get off it & nurse for her sake or stay on it for mine?

How awful for your estranged husband to come over, only to tell you when he leaves, that he is going to see his wh**e.  That is so cruel and inhumane.  I am so sorry.

I take it your doctor did not mention any anti-depressant that might be safe during nursing? (Which I don't know if there is one)  I wish there was, because if you are already depressed, it might get worse after the baby comes.  And that wouldn't be good for the baby.  Mommie's health is extremely important, so you can take care of the new little one.  Right?

Maybe some further discussion with your OB might help come up with some ideas, so your depression can still be treated and you can still nurse your baby.  Still being depressed and going off of your medication, doesn't sound like a good idea.

Please talk to your doctor more about this, okay?

There are safe anti depressant medications that you can take while breastfeeding.
Talk to your doctor again..

I could swear that I was on Zoloft after I gave birth last time! I know my doctor prescribed me an antidepressant BEFORE I was to give birth so that I'd have it on hand afterwards. I have a history of depression, so we discussed it beforehand.  I know that I started taking it soon after giving birth since it takes a while to kick in. I breastfed for at least 3 months.

As for your insensitive jack a s s of a husband, I sure hope you plan on making him pay!! Hit him where it hurts after the baby is born. You deserve to give your little one a good life, whether or not he is in it.

I have suffered from depression for many years and my advice to you would be to stay on it, If you have the slightest bit of doubt that you may slip into a depressive state again then it is safer to stay in the medication. Depression does funny things and it is most important for your daughter to have you has happy and chipper as possible when she arrives. There is nothing wrong with bottle feeding. the most important bond that you can build with her has nothing to do with nursing even though it may feel like that is a major thing. what's most important is that you are happy. Babies can sense that kind of stuff. I wish you the best and please keep me informed on how you are doing. Hang in there kiddo. This to shall pass.

Thanks for all your comments and concerns. I've recently started going to church..3times last week! Not sure if its that or the Zoloft finally working but I feel completely different this last week from any the past weeks that this all started! I talked to my Dr. and am goin to ween myself off the Zoloft and he's goin to put me on another antidepressant when she's born that is safe to nurse with (starts with an E but can't remember what it's called) I'm only goin to nurse for a couple wks anyway. I've never had to be on Zoloft before but I think I'll continue it when I'm done breastfeeding unless I feel fine and I'm def. going to continue going to church as much as can for as long as I live! Went to the dr. yesterday and my cervix has already thinned to about 1cm so he thinks it'll only be a week or two!!! I'm 36wks 2moro! I'll keep you all posted how things turn out.
