Heartburn - who's having it and what helps

Hi,

who else is having this?  What do you find helps?

Sometimes food related, sometimes not and for certain foods it depends on time of the day and activity level.  Yogurt and muesli before exercise is a killer!!
I've tried tums. No go is not better than eating candy!
Eno seems to help (fizzy fruit salt drink), particularly after a few good big burps. :)
Sleeping on left side.

Quick ease in the forest berry flavour is my favourite, but Mylanta also does the trick!

Vitamin water and Propel help me.  I drink the Essential Vitamin Water only b/c Im not sure I want what is in the other types.

Plus, I take Tums the minute I feel heartburn.  Those help alot plus it helps me to reach my daily needed intake of calcium.

Wash down the tums with milk , sleep on you left side for as much of the night as you can. Zantac 150 can be a lifesaver and it is a class B medicine so its safe during pregnancy.

Tarobinc: I just wanted to mention that my OB nurse advised me against drinking the propel fitness water. It may have just been me in particular or maybe even just my OB but wanted to mention it in case you might want to run it by your OB.

Thanks for the info.  Im going to ask my OB next week when I have my appt..  Until then, Ill hold off on drinking Propel.  After doing some research, it seems the main concern over Propel use is pregnancy is that is contains sucralose.

I will try and remember to let you know what my OB says.

Thanks again!

I found drinking milk with my tums helps like sadiesmommy said... I was having BAD heartburn at night, but I eat a small bowl of cereal with milk right before bed (I am having problems sleeping as well) and my tummy is full, and my heartburn is controlled. Sometimes it starts when I get up before I eat anything... I drink a glass of milk when I wake up as well... This is one part of being pregnant I won't miss!! LOL

When it gets to the point where Tums (I prefer the Tums Smoothies brand) don't help anymore, and Zantac doesn't do it for you, you may want to ask your doctor about Protonix. I took it during my first pregnancy and it was WONDERFUL!

I began having terrible reflux a few weeks ago (the constant burning in your esophagus is enough to make you want to cry...especially at night when you're going to bed). My doctor gave me an Rx for Protonix again and it has already helped. I haven't had heartburn/reflux ONCE since it kicked in. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for it to start working, but it is SO worth the wait. A few days ago, I ate pizza rather late in the evening and didn't get reflux or heartburn afterwards, if that gives you an idea of how well the stuff works.

Hope you feel better!
