Low Amniotic Fluid Level

Low Amniotic Fluid Level

I had an u/s today to check the measurements of the baby, which they concluded she weighs approx 5lbs 11oz. They also told me that my amniotic fluid level is low and I have to go back Tuesday for another u/s to check it again. Should I be worried? I am currently almost 35wks.

You must be measuring lower than 10 cm of fluid for them to show a "low level."  They keep a close check on this and won't let it get too low where it would cause any harm to the baby.  You are far enough along now, that if it gets to levels lower than 8 approximately, they will probably induce you.  With a very low fluid level they worry that the baby will compress their umbilical cord. If they felt it was an urgent situation today, they would have put your directly into the hospital.

I know it's hard not to worry, but it sounds like your OB is right on top of things.  I would say be prepared for an early baby arrival.  Glad you have a good doctor.

Try to hang in there, little mother.  The next u/s and measure is only 4-5 days away.  I know it seems like a long wait.  As the doctor told my daughter, just keep track of how much the baby moves and if you notice any decreases, let the doctor know.  In her case, she went another two weeks after the low fluid measurement, before she had the baby.

I wouldn't worry...like Heather said, they take these kinds of things very seriously and will keep a good eye on it and keep checking your fluid. So try to relax! I know it's difficult.
Your so lucky you got an U/S! I've been waiting for them to schedule me one but I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and I don't think it's going to happen...but I think it would clear up a lot of questions I have...I wish I could get one!

But you'll be okay..if there is any danger, they will induce you or schedule a c-section...don't worry girl. Your almost there, hang in!

Thanks girls!

There isnt too much to see when you are this far along on an u/s...because the baby takes up pretty much the entire area when they do an u/s, you pretty much just see baby's outline...and their head is buried in your pelvic bone so you cant see face or anything.
I am going to be prepared on Tuesdasy just incase the level is lower and I have to be induced. BEtter to be safe than sorry!
