? for those who have had an ectopic

I have been reading about the symptoms, one of which is pain on one side. What I'd like to know is, what kind of pain is it-dull ache, stabbing, pinching...?  Is it constant, or sporadic?  And also, how far along were you when you first started feeling it?
Thanks in advance for sharing

sorry for all your losses, i found out i was pregnant on 29/11/10 after doing a preg test, fearing the worst as ihave had 5 miscarraiges in the past, started spotting blood only noticed when i wiped when using the toilet, started off being pink, light brown then dark brown changed colour every day bled right thu til i got my scan on the 17/12/10 which made me 7weeks my HCG levels were 7520 then 6 days later they was 21,050 so thought well there doubling as they should, was getting sharp pains onmy right side it was like a stitch and felt weird when i passed urine....So on the 17/12/10 i went for my scan an seen nothing in my womb so they had to do a internal scan and thats when i seen my baby was in my right tube was totally gutted cause i thought everything was going ok. they admitted me straight away for surgery and had key hole done which i am stilll in pain with as i write this had my right tube removed and baby removed to :-(. But i do still have hope so will try again when the time is right. O and i did have some shoulder pain and lower back pain but didnt think much of it but if u feel that thing arent right get checked out right away. all the best wendy xx

I had an ectopic in July 07 and I was 5 weeks when I found out I was preggo and 7 weeks when they saw it was ectopic. I only had one sharp pain that made me double over that lasted for about 20 minutes thats when I went to the ER and found out I was 5 weeks prego and they told me it was just stretching pains in my uterus. No pain before or after that. I had HCG taken every other day for two weeks, it was 27 the day I found out and 5000 the day they found out it was ectopic, it rose fairly slowly day to day though.

We had been ttc for three years before I had an ectopic 1/21/08 at 6weeks 5days.  My first four betas were 10, 21, 68, 140,-doubling every 24 hours.  A week later 2000+ I had AF like cramps from before I tested postitive until about 5weeks.  Then the cramping changed to a sharp pain that worsened the more I moved around--I was at the mall and had to leave because it hurt to walk.  It was a stabbing feeling on my right side. After resting for a while I felt fine again. The next day I made an apt with my RE and he did blood work and u/s and confirmed and ectopic. My beta was 4000+ and a sac should have been seen on u/s after a beta reaches 2000.  I was given methatrexate sp??? but the tube ruptured before the methatrexate worked.  After I got home, I started vomiting and could not stand up without fainting because of internal blood loss. This came on very quick within 15 minutes. I never had any vaginal bleeding or spotting which my RE said was unusual.  After the tube ruptured, the pain was more of a shooting/stabbing feeling along my side from my knee to right under my rib cage.  By the time I got to the ER I could not breath because of the blood collecting near my spleen/rib cage and could not move my torso area. I was very luck to only need a blood tranfusion, my tube is still there--but needs a little repair.  They did emergency surgery and I am luckily back to normal.  Today I finally started my period again and we are ready to start trying again this cycle.  If you think you may have an ectopic, I would STRONGLY reccommend calling the doctor right away.  I had a "strange" sharp pain-not really like a cramp- in my right side for about a week on and off.  It was tolerable so I did not think anything of it until it got worse.  If I would have went to the RE sooner, I may not have needed the surgery and risked loosing my tube/life because of the rupture.  It NEVER hurts to go and just get checked out.    I hope this does not freak you out.  My RE said my situation was uncommon since I was almost 7weeks and also said most ectopic happen before you even know you are pregnant. I was told odds of a later ectopic are less than 1 in 100. I was close to waiting until it was to late.  If I had not been to the RE hours earlier before the tube ruptured, I would have had no idea what was going on.  Again, I don't mean to freak you out, but it never hurts to just get things checked out.  Good luck to you!

sarge - I understand your fear.  I've had two HCG and I went from 116 to 232 in 48 hours, so that is normal, but I've had some wicked pains in my left side and it has made me worry about an ectopic.  I also had some bleeding at 12 dpo and I passed a little tissue, and then spotted for another 4 days.  I'm just holding onto the fact that my two betas looked great, my progesterone is great (33), and that sharp pain in one side happens mostly at night when I lay a certain way.  It disappears if I shift positions.

well, I have probably jumped the gun here. I just found out Sunday that I'm pregnant, and have only had one HCG so far. I have had a sharp pinching pain in my right side, just a few times, but always in the same spot.  No spotting or anything.  I'm worried because my last pregnancy did not make it very far and ended in miscarriage. I didn't have any "symptoms" last time, and not other pregnancies, so it's difficult to know what are normal twinges and pains.
Thank you for your input ladies, and I'm so sorry for your losses.

i had one in Aug 06 i had what i thought was a period and then two weeks later i had a + preg test cause i was spotting again. i had blood drawn and the first one was 492 which i thought was good but then it didnt double so we knew something wasnt right. i had been having a dull ache in my right side for a few days but thought nothing of it cause my great-grandfather had been hit by a car that week so i was preoccupied with going to the hospital and visiting him. then at 7 weeks i went home one night and the pain got REALLY bad so i ended up in the ER and had to have surgery to remove my tube and ovary cause it had started to rupture. so i would say right about the 6 weeks mark is when the dull ache that came and went it was not constant at all. and i bleed the whole time after about 6 weeks:( i hope that you are not going through this as its no fun at all. keep us posted. . The pain didnt start until I hit the 6 week mark and it was dull/ache on and off for a cople of days.  Then i started to spot whenever i used the bathroom.  I had 2 ectopics and the frist time the pain wasnt that bad and I was given the methotrexate twice and eventuallly passed something.  The second time I woke up with throbbing pain and was immediately sent ot surgery.  Both times the numbers were rising slowly and the progesterone was low. I still had the nausea, headaches, and sore boobs.

Hi there.  Just wanted to let you know that when I had my ectopic a couple summers ago I got all the way to 6 weeks and had no pain at all.  It was a consistently slow rising HCG that was the give away (readings of 117, 170, 192, 210, 250, 290 all but the 1st 2 spaced out by 48hrs).  I did have some spotting and bleeding but the pregnancy was still growing in the tube and we did surgery before the tube burst.  I think that if you are very early on and having twinges or pains all is prob ok, especially if your HCG isn't slow rising.  Good luck and try not to worry too much!!!!
