Has anyone else had two or more blighted ovum in a row?  And if you have is there a reason? or is it really just bad luck? and do you have you had a healthy pregnancy since?  Thanks.  just had my 2nd blighted ovum and feel as if I won't ever see a baby in the ultrasound.

I have had two blighted ovum in a row and I had a D & C for both of them.  It is absolutely pain free other than the emotional pain of going through the loss.  I have a soon to be 2 year old and I have been trying to get pregnant after he turned one.  I have had three losses.  The first one happened a week after I found out I was pregnant...it was very early in the pregnancy so I just had what it seemed to be a period, only it started different.  The second pregnancy I was really very excited because I was almost 12 weeks pregnant but I began bleeding at 10 and a half weeks.  When I got pregnant for the fourth time I was not really worried because my doctor had told me it was unlikely I would go through it again.  I began to worry when I did not notice the same type of pregnancy symptoms that I had with my son and instead I was beginning to notice the similar symptoms as when I had the blighted ovum.  Sure enough I began bleeding at 9 1/2 weeks and once again it was another blighted ovum.  I am now 40 and I'm thinking that maybe it has something to do with my age and I worry I may not have any more children.

I found this site very helpful and greatful for all of you who have shared your stories. It gives me hope. First natural miscarriage in march, with blighted ovum at 9 weeks. I am 7 weeks pregnant again and just found out it is another blighted ovum. I am devestated. My progesterone is good, 16  and HCG is climbing. It is frustrating. I hear this is rare.  I am hoping the next time will be a miracle.

Lauren Marie, any updates? I am hoping you have a little angel..

hello all,

I've also had 2 blighted ovums. I 'm hoping it was just bad luck.
The second time, tissue sampling and a ton of blood work was done, and there was nothing to indicate any reason as to why this happened.  I'm 41, and trying not to lose any hope.  We did try IVF in August, and that failed. My doctor also tried changing my meds for the second round of IVF, and that did not work. I did not respond very well. And, my estrogen levels were really low.  I did not get my period for 7 weeks. So, we are waiting until the first of the year to try again.  I hope 2009 is better for all of us.

I had two blighted ovums within a year and thought we could never have a baby naturally. Then a miracle happened and our first daughter was born! We now have two healthy, happy girls and are expecting again in August. I wish for everyone who has experienced multiple blighted ovums good luck... miracles do happen everyday!!

First I want to say congrats to Marie!  You give us hope!  For everybody else...I want to say I'm sorry for your m/cs.  I have also had 3 m/c within the past 14 months.  My first we saw a fetal pole at 5 weeks and I m/c at 7 weeks.  My second was a blighted ovum. Actually there is some confusion over what it really was.  My first RE sent the tissue away and said I had a molar pregnancy.  However, my new RE thinks that wasn't the case and just a blighhted ovum and early m/c at 5/6 weeks.  Now, I had a m/c 2 weeks ago.  I was only 5 weeks to the day.  The first 2 I had d and c's.  To be honest they were easier then the last one that I m/c on my own.

kk410-  Don't worry you will be in less pain with the D and C.  I'm sorry for your loss and I understand completely how you're feeling.  Have you been tested for blood clotting disorders or had m/c screening tests done.  Sometimes they find out valuable info that way.  I am taking folnate (extra b vitamin and folic acid).  I am MTHFR (compound heterozygous).  I am also taking a baby aspirin a day.  My RE thinks my eggs aren't the best quality.  My FSH is 12.  He's not worried about my blood clotting disorder as it's common.

Girls...I know how you feel about the sono thing.  Everytime I have gone for my second sono I get bad news.  Dh goes with me everytime and we know what to expect.  I feel like maybe if I didn't go for a second one I might be okay..although I know that's not the case.  I wish you all luck and I'm sorry for your losses!

Hi, i have had 3 miscarriages all with in the last yr the first one was a blighted ovum didn't find out until i went for 12wk scan, the second one i statred to bleed  exactly after one wk of finding out i was pregnant, and the third one i was told last friday it was a blighted ovum after an 8wk scan have just been told i will have to have a d&c op to remove the sac -am worried as after my first miscarrige (blighted ovum) it just happend nauturally but i was in a lot of pain. I've been advised to hold off trying again for a few months to give my body time to fully recover and i am happy to do this. Any other advice or things i can to to prevent this happening again ie baby asprin or anti d injection as have A resis negative blood.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I am happy you are pregnant marie and will be praying for you.  I feel the same way about my next pregancy whenever it happens.  It's almost like i don't even want to let me self get excited till i actually see it on the screen.  I will lift you up in my prayers.  Question...did you try to get pregnant again right after?  Our dr. told us to wait 6 months...but I don't know if I can.  We haven't been using protection.  Like  you said what will be will be.

My doctor told me that my two blighted ovums are just bad luck.  I had my second m/c in November and just found out a few days ago that I'm preg again.  I haven't even had a 1st af.  I'm scared to death.  I keep feeling that if I've had 2 m/c in a row then there must be something wrong with me.  I'm putting this pregnancy in God's hands, what will be will be.  I don't know if I can handle another loss.  It seems like many of us on this site have had more than one blighted ovum, even though it's supposedly unlikely to happen twice.  My prayers are with you.  I know we going to get our babies.  We just have to be patient.  In my case, I have no choice.  Best of luck to you.

This didn't happen to me personally, but to my cousin's wife. She had two miscarriages in a row--both blighted ovums. They were both around 4 weeks. One this past May, then one in October. But NOW--she is 7 weeks pregnant!!!!! She got pregnant right away after the last one. For her, it really was just bad luck to have two blighted ovums. Her Dr. told her that it happens to some women on their first tries getting pregnant. Their body just takes a couple tries before it "takes".

Don't give up hope!!! It is hard, but you WILL get pregnant!!!
GOod luck!!
