2nd IVF?

Over the past year and a half I have completed 8 IUIs and now 1 IVF cycle with icsi which was unsuccessfull. During the IVF cycle, all of my hormone levels were perfect.  I have 1 ovary which the doctor's state will only ever produce 4-5 follicles and I have a history of stage 2 endometriosis located in the uterine cul de sac. Out of the 4 retieved eggs, 2 were immature and the other 2 were abnormal. Both of the abnormal eggs were very grainy and had a significant space between the outer and inner shells. My IVF physician stated that because of having 1 ovary, poor quality/quantity of eggs, and history of endometriosis, I will only have a 40% chance of producing "good" eggs if we opted for a 2nd IVF cycle and even with "good" eggs, I will only have a 60% chance of carrying a fetus to birth. If by chance we do opt for a 2nd IVF cyle and it is unsuccessful, our only options are an egg donor or adoption. I just turned 34 years of age and am heartbroken. Unsure if we should try a 2nd IVF or go straight to a donor. Any thoughts?

each person responses differently on the same medicine , even same medicine sometimes responses differently on each cycle.  After ET, REs are done with their jobs, it's out of their hands.  No one would be able to explain why embryos could not implant.  That's why we always hear "everything is good, good linning, good embyos and so...on" but till not able to get pg.
all we can do is try to stay positive and don't give up......each of us should deserves to have at least one kid.
This week will be my baseline for 5th IVF for my first child.  After many IUIs/IFVs cycles, I have nothing to ask my RE.

After reading your comments I see that you suggested asking for Manipur.  Any other thoughts I actually was on Manipur and Brevelle all times and I am only 29.  The first fresh we got 13 eggs and the second fresh we got eight.

I am not recognizing anyone on this chat, but I will fill you in a little.  I have had 4 failed IVF's and tomorrow is my follow up appointment with my doc.  At this point what should I be asking my doc?  Every time he tells me that everything went perfect and that I am at a perfect age and he just can't explain why it is not taking.  We are down to our final vile of my husband’s semen and we also have one frozen embryo.  I am really starting to loose help, but I feel like there is some definite drilling I should be doing tomorrow at my appointment.  We have even talked about seeing another doc, but we have a warranty program that we would have to withdrawal and we would loose over $3,000 then have to start over at least $17,000 without meds as I am sure you are all aware.

I noticed before i was taking menopur my egg quality was between 2-4 based on a scale from 0-5.  Since I been taking menupur my egg quality was Always rated between 4-5.  I don't want you to think the quality of the eggs is the main and only factor.  My friend using the same doctor, had only two mature embryos both rated 2 and she became pregnant at the age of 38 with a healthy boy.  So again it does depends from person to person.  But most good quality eggs have a better chance of implanting.  I usually produce decent eggs but my problems was getting them to implant.  Thats why I truly believe the assisted hatching help my embryos to implant.  I had no idea that the embryos had to hatch from its outer shell after the transfer.  On my fifth IVF, I had 8 eggs taken out and only 7 eggs matured.  On my transfer day which was october 11, 2009, My best embryo was  level 5 which was changing to the next stage (blast) and the other 6 embryos were level 4.  So to answer your question the Last IVF cycle was my better of all the IVFs.  I wish you well.  write me back with any more questions.  God Bless

Reading your comment gave me a little bit of hope. I to used Gonal-F and my doctor had mentioned using Menopur for the 2nd ivf.  Do you mind telling me whether or not the quality of your eggs were the main issue for fertility. I was totally prepared for the embryo no sticking to the uterus lining but was not prepared at all for being told "I had bad eggs and very little chance of producing more than 4-5." With your 5 ivf cycles...was your egg quality the same up until the 5th one? Thank you!

Hello.  I had 5 ivfs and finally pregnant on the 5th one.  By my fourth ivf my doctor changed my medication protocol.  I used follistim and menopur for stimulation.  I feel the menopur made me have good quality eggs.  My previous ivf I was using only follistim or Gonal-f which did not give me the quality eggs as menopur would.  I also did icis on second, third and fourth ivf, but the fifth ivf the doctor suggested icis and assisted hatching which definitely worked for me.  My opinion to you is to consult with your doctor and ask him to exhaust all the options for you doing this ivf procedure and Please ask him about menopur.  I'm 37 years old with pcos and I don't ovulate.  May God Bless you with a beautiful baby soon.

Thanks for the reply.  Not yet...still processing the information as our follow up appointment was this past Friday. We will probably do this though to set our minds at ease.
