2nd miscarriage starting test

Hello- I'm scheduled for a D&C on Tuesday and this will be my second miscarriage in four months. The doctors told me that I will need to wait until I'm back to normal to start taking the tests to see why this keeps happening to me. My question is if we don't have problems getting pregnant but can't seem to keep a pregnancy to full term what tests are they going to do. Has anyone been through this?

I've also had 2 m/c in 6 months.  A d&c at 11 weeks and a natural mc at 5 weeks.  I'm going to see a fertility doc on Thursday who was highly recommended so I'll let you know what she says.  I'm 40 and was originally hoping for two children.  Now I'd feel blessed if I can have at least one child.  In my office, out of 7 women, 5 have had at least one mc and one woman has had 3.  I can't believe how common mc are.

Sorry to hear about the m/c. My first pregnancy ended @ 10 weeks (10/06). Because of my age 41, it was suspected that there was probably a fetal abnormality. At the time of the d/c my RE tested the tissue and nothing abnormal was found. He recently conducted a TORCH screen (looking for antibodies)look it up to learn more about it-everything came back normal. He also did a recurrent pregnancy loss panel (I think you need to have 3 m/cs before most REs would order this test but due to my age-I got tested after the m/c. Anyway, it looks at clotting and my results showed that I have a problem and if I do become pregant again, I would need to use a low-dose blood thinner. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I had two m/c too!! The doctor took lots of blood and everything came out fine, I think they tested for Lupas, thyroid, anticarigens (spelling) diabetes, I was trying to figure out what the paperwork said.
Well all the blood came back okay, now they want to take a HSG to see why I can't keep the pregnanices, I can concieve but they don't stick.  I'm waiting for AF and then I have to call for my appointment for the HSG.  They are looking for abnormalities in the uterus.

Thanks for all of the information. How long after your miscarriage did you start taking the blood work. My doctor told me to I had to wait two months or until I had two normal cylces.

My doctor said she will test the tissue right after the D&C to see if there is any tissue (they are also checking me for an eptopic) and get back to me right away. I'm starting to bleed now so I'm just hoping I don't miscarry before the D&C. I need to find out if this is another miscarriage or an eptopic.

I didn't realize how complicated things are with pregnancies. I've been an a roller coaster for about a month with this baby and it still amazes me that the doctors still don't know what is going on with me.

I didn't test until 2 months post the d/c. I wasn't for sure if we wanted to try again so I had to do some thinking. But my RE didn't want me to get pregnant again and possibly end up with the same situation (i.e. the miscarriage). The TORCH screen results took maybe 7-10 days and the pregnancy loss panel took about 3 weeks and 5 tubes of blood. You probably want to make sure all your hormones and labs associated with pregnancy are back to normal because I don't know if they can cause false results.

Yes, pregnancy can be complicated. I have worked with maternal and child health issues for 11 years and it never seemed that my moms had pregnancy complication problems. Their problems were more social (i.e. poor, inadequate housing, lack of family support and etc...). During this process I have learned more about my body and infertility than I ever wanted to know

i have had two m/c too.  Your doctor will draw blood(took 9 tubes of blood from me!) to test for clotting factors.  My dr. said that if the tests come out positive they will give me low dose heparin to take during the pregnancy.  If the tests are normal, then I can take low dose aspirin, prenatal vitamin and folic acid now and for the first trimester.  Basically if you have a clotting problem then there is not enough blood and nutrients getting to the placenta and baby and hence it ends in a miscarriage.  Even if you get a positive test, they will confirm it by running the same test awhile later since your bady can have natural variation of these factors.  Another possibility is that something is wrong with the uterus shape. The first thing my RE did was a 3d u/s to check the shape of the uterus.  Another possibility is lining problems like endometriosis or scarring.  Overall I think all of these are fairly rare occurences but they want to check before you go on and have more unexplained m/c.  Odds are probably best that the m/c's were just random chromosomal problems and everything will work out fine next time!!
