300 units of Follistim seems high???

Whoa. New doc put me on 300 Follistim. I have not done this since July. I did 150/175 in June and I think 200/225 in July. What is 300 gonna do to me?  I forget if there are emotional side effects. I ovulate on my own already this is just to get a few eggs in one cycle.

It seems high to me but it depends on how you respond. I was on 150 for about 10 days and had A LOT - did you respond well to the other dosages?

Are you going to do IVF?  How do you response to 200/225 units?
I had 150/225 and got 7 follicles on IUI but overstimulation.
Now, I have 375 follistim + 225 menoput on many IVFs, I'm still ok, and 10-14 follicle even only end up 5-8 embyos by day 3.

always had 2 maybe 3 big follies before. never overstimmed. never more than that number of full size viable follies. maybe a extra 9mm or 10mm.

Re will monitor you more closely so don't worry, he would descrease/increase the med. if need after the first US.  He may want you to have more than 3 follies this cycle to let you have more chance to get pg this time.  Good luck

That seems very high.I was on between 25 and 50 follistim and that was for IVF.

So you're not doing IVF?  You said it's just to get a few extra eggs?  It does seem a bit high for that reason (for IVF that changes things), but I will say my good friend does not respond well to FSH and has done 450 every time for her IUI's and IVF's alike.  I am the opposite.  With my PCOS, they'd give me 75 for 7-8 days and I'd almost have way too many!  I think it just depends on the person, but I also think you should definitely voice your concern to your doctor.  It's your body and you have every right to make sure they have a good reason for making you put all these hormones into it!

I'm going through an IVF cycle and I'm on 300 units of Follistim, then it goes down to 225 because I'll be adding 75 units of Menapur.

I don't have PCOS. I am in my mid 30's. They based my med intake on how I reacted to Femara for the 2 IUI's I had plus HCG trigger.

IUI experience: My follicles grew to 20-21, but I only had 2 mature the 1st IUI and 1 mature the 2nd IUI. Neither resulted in pregnancy, but that's another story.

If the doctor is increasing your dosage then maybe there is a reason.  Maybe your ovaries didnt stimulate enough.  I was on 450 units of Follistim at one point.  Every woman is different, there is no way to know what dosage is too strong.  

Ask your doctor his reasons for increasing, and any concerns you have in regards to side effects.
