30mm cyst, Will it resolve by next cycle?

After another emotinal BFN, we decided to give this journey one more try. However, at my baseline US this morning they discovered a 30mm cyst on my right ovary!  My lining was also still very thick- I am cd 3 and it was 7.5 still, in the past it has been about 2 mm. So whether I want one or not, I am taking a break this cycle. The RE said I could still get pregnant on my own this month (yeah right- if that were true I wouldn't be seeing him). Anyway, 30mm seems VERY big. Will it resolve on its own by next cycle?

I will say that I was disappointed when I heard the news this morning, but now I am actually a bit excited to take some time for me! I have already started to work out again, and can really use this time to get back in shape; mentally and physically. I also asked the RE to give me more information on IVF, so I can review it and have some time to figure out what I want to do. He didn't say that I wouldn't conceive if I continue with IUI, but said at my age (38) IVF would be the fastest route to pregnancy. If I keep with IUI I probably have about another 6-7 cycles covered. If I go for IVF, I will have to pay around 5k out of pocket and will only have 1 shot.

Thank you, that makes me feel a bit better...I am hoping I follow the typical pattern and do not end up being an exception!

I have done 3 IUI's. My RE has told me I can continue to try IUI, but at 38, IVF would be a faster path to pregnancy. I hear ya, it DOES seem like everyone around is getting pregnant. I wanna know what well they are drinking out of!

10_07 - I was told by my RE that putting women on BCP for the cyst(s), is really text book and he used to do that all the time early in his career but women were getting upset because of the time factor - they would have to wait more than one cycle i think to start again for another IUI etc. The cysts typically resolve themselves in one cycle.

How many IUI"s have you done? My RE keeps telling me these things take time and it's a process. IT's just like every month that goes by i hear the clock ticking...  AND why is every other woman around me getting pregnant on their first try??

Thanks for the info! It is so nice to read how yours resolved without surgical intervention. The things I read earlier really scared me! Its funny because I am pretty sure I have been feeling a litte different, but since I found out about the cyst this morning I swear I feel it! In my gut, I knew he would find a cyst this morning- not sure why I had that feeling, since I've never had one before. Thanks again!

I had a 40mm cyst in October and currently have a 30mm one.  The 40mm one went down by the start of the next cycle.  For the current one I am not sure because I haven't had it checked since they found it.  But I can tell that it has gone down (I had been very bloated and had ovary pain but both of those issues have resolved).  Both times though I have taken BCPs as that can help cysts go down.  No one ever mentioned not exercising to me and I have been running the past 2 weeks with no problems whatsoever.  Just keep an eye on it and if you have any pain in that area go in to the doc.  Best of luck.

I am hoping it goes away- I did the worst thing I could possibly do and looked it up on the internet. Of course all the things I read were horrible! My RE did not seem to concerned, but I am seriouslly having my doubts about him so that is not reassuring. 30 mm just seems so huge to me- that is a bit over an inch right? I have been working out 40-80 minutes since Sunday. I skipped abs today because I am afraid of the cyst rupturing.

kris- I get how you feel. I got pregnant easily before as well and so this does not make ANY sense. I dont really mind the appointments, but the emotional ups and downs are difficult. I am going to Georgia for a conference in a few weeks and it will be nice to be able to relax and have a drink if I want to! I wonder if my RE will switch me to all injectables or have me do clomid and follistim combined...

kricket- nice to hear your cyst resolved on its own. I was reading that a lot of people are put on bcp to help reduce the size, but this was not offered to me. Did you take any? With IVF, how long are you on bcp before you start your injectables? Do you go through 2 cycles to complete IVF?

Jenn- Thanks for the info. As badly as I want to do weights and abs, I think I better let this cyst resolve first. I gained 6 pounds since I started all the hormones and although my clothes still fit, they do NOT look the same!
My insurance covers injectables @ 50% and everything else 100% up to 15k. So I think my portion of the IVF would be around 5-6k. I don't know if I want to take the chance, because if it fails, then we are definately done. If I continue on IUI then I have more opportunity if I can handle the emotional rollercoaster. Idk what to do.

Ive had cysts several times in the past and was always told NOT to do heavy exersize because it could cause the cyst to burst. I think your alright to do walking but i wouldnt do anything heavy duty...
It will feel nice to take a month off then get back into things.
Can you tell me why it is only 5k? Does your insurance cover part of it? Where i live i have heard it is around 15-20k...

So sorry to hear about your BFN. It's so frustrating, upsetting and maddening at the same time. I had a cyst my last cycle at my baseline US as well. It was from the clomid that i took the previous cycle for my IUI (that didn't work). At first, like you, i was really upset about having to wait out that cycle but my dr said we could definitley still try and although having a cyst might make pregnancy difficult, it was not impossible. Mine was 2mm and he didn't mention anything about not being able to exercise or resume my normal activities. my period is due tomorrow or friday so i don't know if im pregnant yet but i don't think i am. I have zippo symptoms and all AF symptoms. waiting a cycle out isn't the worse thing in the world. You have so much more time without having to go to the dr appts and you feel better without taking the clomid, estrogen and progesterone. anyway -we are going to try IUI again next cycle with injectables this time as i had too many bad side effects from the clomid - thin lining and the cyst etc. the other night i told my hubby i didn't want to try anymore. I had all AF symptoms and i was just done. He was like - but why? We've been at this nearly 2 years.  i told him i was sick of the waiting. Living in 2 week increments, having forced sex etc. The other thing is that i have been pregnant before and got pregnant easily in the past. my son is now 2 1/2 and we've been trying since he turned 1. Why isn't this happening again? why don't the drs give me any definitive answers??? anyway - good luck to you.

Another question- do you think it is safe to continue exercise with a 30 mm cyst? Would exercise cause it to rupture?
