I will be 48 on June 26th. I was told yesterday that I am 8 weeks along. What are the chances of a normal baby? My only child just completed her first year of college. What happens now?
I am also a late in life mom. My last child born when I was 43. On the first, we had an amniocentisis. Physically could not do one on the 2nd baby (uterus was solid!) Then I found that there was a non-invasive technique using an ultra-sound and measurements. Specific measurements were taken of the neck
, thigh and some other parts. (was a while ago) This gave a percentage probability of whether the baby might have Down Synd. and hopefully, not have to get an amniocentisis. Due to the age, I highly recommend having a high-risk OBGYN. I am not being a fatalist or trying to frighten you but I believe you need to be aware of some possible problems. We lost our first child dut to a placental abruption when normal labor started. It was a perfect pregnancy till then. There is no known cause but age sometimes is a factor. Discuss this with your OBGYN and if it is advisable to induce a couple of weeks early. Keep up on your hormone levels and blood pressure
. You need to do your research and always keep questioning the doctor. I do have to warn you (LOL) dealing with other 'new' moms will be an experience! The first one to bring her child over for a play date I was shocked. She looked like she was 16 years old. (We did become friends.) Most, I had nothing in common
with! There is hope as there are more and more late in life moms out there. Otherwise, I wish you a very healthy pregnancy and birth. Let us know the results!!!
Congratulations! You are one lucky person and consider it a special gift for you. Try to consult it with your OB Doctor so you would know the stages and what to do.
