ANYONE TRY A LESS AGGRESIVE(aggressive) IVF PROTOCOL AFTER FIRST ONE FAILS? PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE...

Dear friends,

My first IVF attempt failed. Got the BFN result about a week ago.

I'll take March off, and get into a second cycle in April.

I have been in a moderately aggressive plan (interms of the amount of follistim I took, 450/day for 2 days and 300 per day for about a week).

I also took lupron throughout and menapur last 2 days.

I produced 16 eggs. 8 were mature. 4 embryos on day 3. 1 blast on day 5. They transferred the blast on day 5.

My doctor said he will increase the follistim dose to an even more aggresive (aggressive) level in the next cycle. His thinking is that this is a numbers game. And if this does yielded 16 eggs and 1 blast, more eggs should yield more blasts...

I went to another fertility doctor for a second opinion. He actually wants to decrease the dose in my 2nd cycle if he does my next IVF. He says 16 eggs is a pretty good number. But sometimes less is more and we can get higher quality eggs if we don't push my body so much. After all only 8 out of 16 turned out to be mature and only 1 becamed a blast.
Nothing wrong with retrieving 10 eggs instead of 16...if they're going to be higher quality.

So if I go with him, he will go with a little bit of a less aggresive (aggressive) plan.

I can't decide which doctor to go with. But I liked the logic behind less is more. There is no proven research for any of these philosophies .

Did anyone try this? I mean go for a less aggressive medication plan after one or several failed IVFs and succeeded?

And in general what do you think of my dilemma? Any thoughts?

Thank you so much, I appreciate your responses!

On one hand, there is some tradeoff between quantity and quality.  On the other hand, 16 eggs is not such a big number.  If you were to produce over 20 eggs, trying a less aggressive protocol hoping for better quality is pretty common.  If I were in your shoes, I would go with a more aggressive protocol but then i am not an expert...

This is going to be a tough decision.  Let us know what you decide.
