That must have been really upsetting to hear.  I think that before letting panic set in (easier said than done) I would try to wait to hear the results of the ultrasound.
Hopefully the U/S shows more than the HSG.

There are ladies on Medhelp who have gotten pregnant even though they have no fallopian tubes at all!  They have achieved their pregnancies through IVF!

Like your doctor said, try not to worry just yet. Just be happy that you did go for the HSG, and now you are on the road to getting your BFP!

Take care, and please keep us posted,

Gigi

Did your Dr say whether it was abnormally shaped like T-shaped or something along those lines?  The tubes not being visualized mean that there is some sort of blockage, but could also have further to do with the uterine abnormality.  Msg me personally & I'll try to help you the best  can.  I do these with OB/gyn's, so I have some expertise in this area.  Keep me posted & Good Luck.

I'm sorry you're having to digest & understand your HSG results. I've been there. Last year my HSG revealed a T-shaped uterus, which means it's basically much smaller than normal. Just hearing that something was abnormal made me feel so sad, but trust your doctor & they'll have a plan for you. I'm now 19 weeks pregnant, so there is hope :) Take care & let me know if I can help in any way :)

First of all I completely understand your distress and I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I know how it feels.  If you don't get enough answers from an ultrasound, you may want to consider having a hysteroscopy before proceding with trying to conceive.  It is a simple procedure where they put a camera similar to the ones they use in laparoscopies through the cervix and look inside your uterus.

I don't want to alarm you or add to your worry, but I do want to arm you with some knowledge to educate yourself with so you can ask the right questions and make sure all bases are covered.  I have had a difficult time with incompetent doctors who knew very little and have had to educate and advocate for myself to get properly diagnosed and treated to ultimately have success.

One possible cause of blockage could be scar tissue inside the uterus.  It is a very rare thing called Asherman's Syndrome.  The technical term for the scar tissue is called intrauterine synechiae (sin-ee-key-eye).  They found mine during my second surgery for endometriosis and adenomyosis.  I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and had had at least 30 ultrasounds in the two years before they found it.  It never showed up on any ultrasounds.  From what I read, as usual for me, I did not have any of the things that typically cause it.  Since I had a normal HSG when we first started trying to conceive (about 2 years before they found it), my guess is that mine was caused by a bad pelvic infection I got during my first IVF procedure.  It can also be caused by D&C's, abortions, STD's and pelvic inflammatory disease.  As I said I had none of these prior to it's discovery, and since it happened sometime in those two years, my guess is it was a reaction to that infection.

If they discover scar tissue, it is very important that you do not get a D&C and find an Asherman's doctor to remove it.  I have all sorts of info on this so if you need it, please do not hesitate to contact me, but I won't trouble you with it until you find out what is going on.

I'm by NO MEANS saying that is what the problem is, I just know it is something that few doctors know anything about and it can be difficult to find info on, so if it is the case I wanted to give you the heads up.  When mine was found my doctor said he'd "never seen it before" but he removed it anyway - by D&C of course which I later learned can make the problem worse.  "I was baffled by it" is not the sort of thing you want to hear from someone who just operated on you!

I just want to say that no matter WHAT happens, do NOT give up!!!  I have been on my TTC journey for 3 years.  It seemed every surgery they'd find something new that's wrong with me that explained why the prior fertility treatments hadn't worked.  The only way I got each diagnosis was by not accepting "good enough" from each doctor and moving onto another when they weren't doing their jobs.  I went through 5 doctors in 3 years, had 3 surgeries in a year and a half, 2 IVF's, 2 IUI's, 7 months on clomid in the very beginning, 6 ovarian cyst ruptures, several chemical pregnancies and more.  I was supposed to have a hysterectomy in July, and instead begged my reluctant doctor to do ovarian drilling to help fix my PCOS and get me to ovulate on my own so we could try one last time without doing fertility treatments.

I am now 8 weeks pregnant, and will know in a week for sure if it is TRIPLETS!!!  I ovulated THREE times all on my own!  The longest I'd ever been pregnant before this is 3 days.

NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT!

I hope everything works out for you.  Hang in there and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Felsha. the dr just told me that i have an abnormal uterus...he did not mention what the abnormality was...it didn't hit me until he told me i was calm about the whole thing...then i burst into tears...when he said we'll have to do a 3day ultrasound..and maybe a labroscopy...first he just said o look on the screen there is your uterus...then he yelled out at the technician that no ink was running through...then he told me he's inserting another device...then he said i spasmed and he cannot see the fallopian tubes on the screen...said let's deal with the abnormal uterus first...i'm terrified but i am scheduled for the us on monday, with the results late friday afternoon. i will let you know. thank you so much.

thanks for the kind words! it's weird but after reading everyone's comments, you are all making me feel a bit better and i thank you. the scary part is the dr kept asking me if i have ever miscarried...of course i replied i have never been pregnant...which puts more scary thoughts in my head.
i was supertense as well...but he said i spasmed and the ink just stayed in my  uterus...i guess i'll wait til the 3-d us is done....thks
