Antiphosphoid Lipid Antibody Sydrome.

Geez...my RE referred me to perinatalogist because lab work came back abnormal.  I have anticardiolipid antibodies and have been dx'd with the above .

I have to take a baby aspirin every day (but have been doing this) and if I get pregnant then I have to take daily shots of Levonox (like heparin) twice a day.

Another part of the protocol is to take steroids (prednisone).  for the duration of the first trimester.

Do you guys know anything about this???  Ever heard about it?  I told DH and he didn't seem to be as unnerved as me.  Men annoy me sometimes! I'm thinking to myself...Dude I'm going to have to give my shots twice a day.  Yuck!  I wish men could go through some of the suffering women have to deal with.  Their job is so damn easy!!!!!!    Okay...venting!!

Hi, I just started looking for other people with Antiphosphylipid syndrome I have had this ever since I got pregnant with my first baby at 15. I carried him for 6mo. then had to deliver him stillborn it was very hard but I also was not ready at that age I guess. At that time no one knew what the prob. was. Then at the age of 18 I carried my second child for 3 mo. it got that much worse. Then my doc. looked into my prob. finally @ found out that I had this anti body syndorme. Finally with my 3rd child (with my same husband) I was able to carry  my son to term with the help of asprin 81mg a day.  3 yrs later I got pregnant with my 4th, but my condition worsened and I had to take the asprin and inject myself with heparin shots 3times a day.  My son and daughter are 7 & 10 now and I hope to god I did'nt pass this dissorder on to them. They are happy & healthy & I thank god every day for them. So dont give up hope with love & determination & maybe prayer You can carry your children to term.  I am 30 yrs old now and am still fighting this damn dissease. I would like to hear from you and ist nice to know I not the only one thanks!

I am not pg yet (hope to find out here in a week and a half :) ) I had tons of blood work done and she decided to add the cardiolipin lab on there, but she was almost 100% sure it would be fine. Then it came out at 17, and so she said not to worry (yeah right) then we repeated it and it was 16. She explained to me the levels like this: there are negative, low positive (or inconclusive), moderate positive and high positive. She said low positive normaly doesn't require any treatment other than baby asprin. She said prednazone (sorry I am horrible speller) doesn't really work. She said the asprin is good. I am not sure tho about after getting pg, I didn't talk to her about it yet, we only emailed and I haven't seen her since. So prob will get the lovenox too. Man, I hate needles! And I am going to an acupuncturist...go figure! LOL

I miscarried @ 10wks (10/06) and after extensive testing (i.e. from testing the fetal tissue from the d & c and antibodies), I was diagnosed with a low positive result for IgM APS/isolated low titer antiphospholipds antibodies. I am pregnant again and have been taking 40mg lovenox (2 shots a day) and a baby aspirin. Hopefully, I will have a better outcome this around with the newly gained information/knowledge regarding the clotting issue.

Good luck!

I don't know what my levels are.   I went into the RE's office to look at my follicles and the nurse gave me a stickie and said that my doctor wanted me to see another doctor because of my lab results.   I think the doc's office mailed me a copy of the results to take in so I will look for it and tell you tomorrow.  I'm at work right now.

Are guys pregnant right now?  How's it going?  They'll put me on Lovenex 40 mg twice a day and I've been taking baby aspirin.

Congrats on getting pregnant again.  How's the treatment going?  What happened in your last pregnancy.  Did you see the baby's heartbeat?   My pregnancy were I was 8 weeks and then I lost, was going good. I was so happy when I saw HB because I was told only 5% chance of miscarriage. That was on a Monday...later on that week on Friday, I started spotting.  The baby's HB was really low, just 89.  I thought maybe the baby didn't make it b/c of the ALA syndrome.  Who knows....

The perinatalogist also mentioned me taking prednisone for the first trimester , but I'm hesitant because I've taken that for asthma and I don't like it at all.  It makes me crazy! Extremely hungry! I get a nasty rash from it and emotional (and that's just from taking it for a five days).

Hi!! I also have the antiphospholipid antibody..here is a bit of what my doc emailed me about it and if you want, I have a PDF file she emailed to me to read about it, if you want I can email it to you. It is 9 pages so I can't copy and paste it in here. You can email me if you want and I will email it back to you. My email is ***@****. Here is what my doc said about it in an email to me

Your IgM Anti-Cardiolipin Ab has come back low positive again. The general consensus is that only values >20 should be treated. I have attached an article for your review. But you and I should talk about it in further detail and discuss the pros and cons of treatment.

What was your level?
Mine was 17 the first time checked and 16 the second.

I was very surprised that I am pregnant again. We used IUI (antibodies in my cervical mucous)in August 06 & Feb 07-can you believe 2 for 2? Anyway, all was going well at the 8 wks visit (early 10/06), heartbeat was strong and not more than 5 days later, I saw blood (kinda pinkish) and then 2 days later, I saw blood again (only one time each when I wiped). Saw my RE (9 wks gestational age but measured at 8wks). So by 10 wks the pregnancy had ended and I needed to have a d & c-I never expelled anything-it seemed the pregnancy stopped in utero. I was devasted, I have only been married 2 1/2 years (didn't come off the pill until after the first year of marriage) and did not know there was a fertility problem but we weren't really trying as in keeping temperatures, looking at ovulation patterns and etc... but at my last physical (2/06), my NP said that if I wanted to get pregnant, my biological clock was ticking (I was 40 then). Worked with ovulation kits for several months and couldn't tell if the lines were the same color as the control (just a big headache) and couldn't keep the temps right either. Finally, went to the RE in (7/06) and within a month found out that I had the cervical mucous problem (I also have hypothyroidism-so who knows how that shows up elsewhere in the body) but by 8/06-I was pregnant. After the miscarriage, he did detailed testing and in January (07), I found out about the clotting issue. By February 07, I am pregnant again. I am very nervous and scared because I was so devasted with the miscarriage. It was like the 2nd to worse thing I had ever been through outside of my parents passing away. I hope I can hold it together and not have a nervous breakdown and have hopefully and prayfully have a positive outcome this time. I will not see my RE until next week for my first visit and will only work with him until my the end of the first trimester. He did not mention anything about preeclampsia in the last trimester but I guess he figures I will be with another physician by that time but I will ask him about anyway.

I think around Cycle Day 13 during the fertility testing (7/06), the RE did a post coital test (my husband and I had sex prior to the office visit), a sample was taken and it appeared there were very few sperm. So the next step was to look at his sperm sample to determine if he had a low sperm count. His sample came back fine so it was the cervical mucous that was killing his sperm therefore they couldn't not get to the uterus to meet the egg, so with the IUI procedure-they bypass the cervix/cervical mucous and deposit the sperm in the uterus, where they are just waiting for the egg to come down the fallopian tube. Through this process, I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about my body.
