Anyone taking Follistim? when did you start?

Hello-

After my 3rd IUI last year (1st round using Follistim), me and my DH got pregnant and I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy DS in January. Since it took a while to conceive him, me and my DH are already back on the TTC train. I went to my RE and had all the tests and all is good so I am starting Follistim again this cycle.

Last time I took Follistim I started on CD2. I developed too many follies in the beginning (I had >10 decent sized ones very close in size by CD6) and my RE decreased the dosage and then I coasted. He would have canceled it if he thought there was the potential for >4 to be released. B/c of what happened last time, my RE told me to start taking Follistim on CD4. I was wondering what other people's experiences have been: what CD did you start Follistim and how many follies did you release? I trust my RE and I know he wants what is best for us. although I was stressed last time, it worked so I'm sort of disappointed that he is changing the routine.

Thanks and Good luck to all!

I think the follies get absorbed. In a "natural" cycle, each month we have multiple follicles, but then usually one matures quicker than the others and the others stop growing. The mature one is released and the others are re-absorbed.

I do not know about the provera.

Good Luck! SSBD!

No IUI... Just timed BD. Nurse told me I'm at risk for multiples because I have 3 follies which we are fine with but something tells me if anything only one will release or will stick. I just need to hope and pray that I did O after the trigger. OK I will count today being O day so tomorrow would be 1DPO.

I'm just curious... What happens to the follies if I don't O after triggering? If I don't end up prego, will I for sure get AF or will I need to take provera? I know I shoulda asked the nurse all these questions but I totally forgot so I will probably call her monday. My beta test is Aug 8th... Here goes the long 2WW!!!

I read online that the average time to O after the trigger is 36-40 hours. Are you having an IUI? I saw you wrote "relations cycle" does that mean just tracking when the best time for you to BD and no iui? I usually have the trigger ~24 hours before the IUI and then my RE tells me to BD the next day "just in case". I figure that if there is more than 1 follicle, they aren't all going to be released at the same time and it might be spread out over a hours. I would count tomorrow as your O day. Good luck!

OK... i had a feeling its possible not to O after trigger but just wanted confirmation. I'm really trying hard not to think negative but then i also dont wanna have such high hopes only to be let down with negative results.

I'm doing timed intercouse this cycle and nurse just called and said i can trigger shot tonight. So my question now is what day do i count as 1DPO if i trigger tonight and have intercourse tonight thru sunday??

I feel like I have heard of almost everything on this forum. I think it is possible to not O after the trigger, but most people do. Don't think about negative outcomes! My RE schedules the IUI for ~24 hours later. He wants to do it before I O so that the sperm are waiting for the follicles. Good luck to you! SSBD!

I think your RE just wants to play it safe cause too many follies will cause the cycle to be a bust and that would suck even more. I hope i am lucky like you and get prego with my first injectable/relation cycle.

I went in for another bw/us this morning so i'm waiting to hear back from the nurse this afternoon. The u/s tech told me on the right i have 1x13 and 1x16mm and on the left i have 2x11 and 1x13mm follie. My RE would let me trigger if the follie is 16mm and up so we'll see what is next when the nurse calls me. I am getting the ovidrel trigger shot so i will prolly ovulate once i get the shot.. i would hope. Do you know if some people still dont ovulate even after the trigger shot?? I'm just thinking of the negative outcome so i am prepared if the bw shows that i did not O after getting the trigger.

Good luck and SSBD!!

Hello-
Tomorrow is CD4 so I will take my first shot of Follistim - 75 iu. I am supposed to go to the RE next Wed for an u/s and bw. Last time I started on CD2 and I started with a dose of 100 iu. I went to the RE for u/s and b/w after 5 days. B/c I responded too well, the RE had me come in every day until the IUI to monitor the follies.

How many follies do you have? When does the RE think you will O? I trust my doctor, I guess I'm just over-thinking things. I know that my RE wants to avoid a situation where I have too many follies. But at the same time, when I had a lot of follies before, I got my first BFP and I had 1 baby. I can't help but think I needed those follies for it to work.

Good luck to you!

*Typo on the iu I was on... i started with 50 iu on cd2 and on cd4 RE had me increase to 75 iu.*

Sounds like you responded very well to the shots. If you trust your RE then follow his insts and take it from there. How many iu were you on when you started the shots on cd2?

This is my first relations cycle and RE had me start 75iu of follistim on cd2. I'm in the middle of my cycle currently and I been going in every 2-3 days for bw/us... hoping that the follies are growing everyday so that i can get the call from the nurse to do the ovidrel shot. My e2 level was up/down but the nurse said its normal to fluctuate for woman with PCOS which is what i have and that's why RE started me on a low dose of 50iu follistim the first 2 nights b/c woman with PCOS tend to respond too good w/ the shots and can produce too many mature follies which would have caused my relations cycle to be cancelled and possibly converted to IVF instead.

Have you started your cycle yet? Good luck and SSBD to all.
