Anyone taking Lovenox, PLEASE READ!

don't want to alarm anyone, but PLEASE speak with your doctor, and get a second  immediately if you're taking Lovenox.  I recently (like 2 days ago) saw on the news that Lovenox is being "voluntarily" recalled (whatever that means). I don't even know what it is, or what it's used for so I didn't pay much attention to it. In addition, I work at a hospital and whenever something changes with a drug, the pharmacist sends out a hospital wide email, and just YESTERDAY he sent one out one saying that they were "voluntarily" recalling lovenox at this facility, and will NO LONGER carry it.....Again, I'm not sure of the reason because I didn't pay it too much attention, BUT I do KNOW that something is going on with it that's been in the news lately....seen it with my own eyes, PLEASE check into it.....you may have nothing to be alarmed about, BUT it's better safe than sorry, and I figure if the pharmacist at a hospital is recalling it immediately after seeing something on the news about it, it's worth checking into.

They know nothing about a recall.  Maybe it's only in a couple of states???

Here it is...from peekawho:

PARIS (AFX) - Sanofi-Aventis said it recalled 30 lots of syringes pre-filled with enoxaparin anti-thrombosis treatment and sold under the Lovenox and Clexane brands due to a risk of overdose.

It said a 'limited number' of doses filled on one production site and destined for Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa are affected.

Sanofi said it has informed the health authorities concerned.

Sanofi said there is no problem with the drug enoxaparin itself and does not expect any shortage of Lovenox and Clexan to result from the recall.

Someone updated the older post about this medicine with what the recall was about...it was an article she had found.

I actually don't deal with anything medical (I'm a big baby, can't stand the sight of blood, people crying etc..., LOL) I work in the IT department of the hospital, but because the pharmacist sends info on drugs out hospital wide, I get them too (although I'm not in medical).  I'll see what I can find out about it.

I found that article.  Those boxes didn't go the the US though.....and that article is from feb 2006.  I wonder if it's the same issue Nickey is talking about?   Anywho, I'm asking the pharmacist and my doc about it

Neither knows anything about a recall.  They say they are still actively filling it.
I'll ask our hospital pharmacy tonight about it.  I had a patient on it as recently as 5 nights ago.

You'd think if there was a recall, community pharmacies would know???  They are the ones filling these things for patients who use them at home!

Weird!

Got your warning.  thank you.     I have a doc's appt and I'll ask...That stuff is expensive too.....30 bucks a shot..$937for thecase.   I haven't started though.   I just took one as I got conflicting instructions on the RX label and from the prescribing doc and doc on call.

But I don't think I will be starting at all because I don't think my pregnancy is sticking.   My HCG levels are extremely low and I believe at this point they've declined.

Can you find out why it's being recalled??

What do you do at the hospital.  I work in medical field too at a monster ins co.    -- medical economics  boring number cruncher.
