Anyone with iui success at 12 hours past trigger (gonal f and ovadril)?

I had to terminate a pregnancy in January at 22 weeks due to severe birth defects (she was not going to make it to birth).  After determining that it was not related to myself or my spouse, we started to try again 3 months later.  The problem was that I stopped ovulating (NEVER had a problem before, pregnant in 1 month the first time).  We gave it another couple of months and my doc put me on clomid.  I responded well to the clomid but after 3 months I added IUI (12 and 36 hours post trigger) two failed iui cycles and my doc is now putting me on Gonal f w/trigger for the first month.  My dose is only 37.5 and since my injectibles are so expensive (insurance does not cover) I have to change to only 1 iui per cycle instead of 2. The problem is that my docs office wants to do the iui at 12 hours and I do not ovulate until about 40 hours after the shot.  I cannot find anything that determines a single iui should be done at less than 24 hours.  has anyone had success with a single 12 hour iui?  I dont know how to approach my doctor, I dont want them to feel as though I am telling them how to do their job.  thanks in advance for your "words of wisdom"

First, I am very sorry for you loss!  I cannot even imagine going through that!

I hope I can answer your question.  Washed sperm typically does not live past 12 hours.  It is not like regular sperm that can hang around for days.  I think that 24 hours past trigger is the earliest you should be doing IUI.  If you O 40 hours after trigger you should definitely do it 36 hours after.   the best timing for IUI is 6 hours before or after O.

Yes, like Helen72 mentioned I've heard of women having the best luck with 36 hrs after also.   But, if you are using fresh sperm (dh)'s then it'll live much longer, several days.  So, it just depends.  I'm sure your clinic has reasons, but is certainly within your rights to ask what those reasons are.  Afterall it is your pregnancy and your body.  I'm sure they won't feel you are being offensive by asking for more info.  Good luck, I hope you have a success!!!

I think that I may ask your RE about doing one IUI 36 hours later...I've heard of girls doing one at 12 hours past but then another at 48 hours past.
Sorry about your loss..I too lost a baby at 19 weeks this August...when we delivered him his cord was wrapped two times so tightly around his neck causing his demise.

My RE said if you have good cm, the washed sperm can last up to 72 hours.
If your RE insists on doing the IUI at 12 hours past, just be sure to bd, bd, abd bd some more on the days following!!!

hey i got pregnant on gonal-f and ovedril on cd16 i was told to give myself the ovedril injection around 730 pm and i went the next day at noon for the IUI using my DH washed sperm just half hour before the IUI..i was on a higher dose of gonal-f 225 and i had to used like 3 pens it got expensive but since its your first cycle they wont know how you are going to react so they might have you up the dose while monitoring you thas what happend to me i started at 37.5 and i ended at 225..i would do it all over again if i had to im 11 weeks 2 pregnant and i feel great!!

from my personal experience, 12 hours is way to soon.  I have gotten pg twice from IUI and both times the iui was 36 hours post trigger shot.  I also had an u/s done a 3-4 hours prior to IUI to confirm I hadn't already ovulated.  Both times the follicle was still there.

I've never been on gona-f so I don't know if that makes a difference, but from my experience, I would insist on 36 hours.

Thank you so much for your comments, I think I will ask him if I can do it later. I have to go the morning after Christmas to see where I am at as I prepare for round three iui.  I hope that they give me a voice regarding the situation.  I guess they dont have to know WHEN I do my shot but the latest I could get away with the adjustment would be a 24 hour IUI because they tell me the day before if I am having it done. ahhhhh.......lol

When you say this, does this pertain to having dh sperm washed?  We have him go in at 7 and they wash it and I go back at 9.  Is this what you meant by "frest sperm"?  My doc says up to 72 hours in the ivf incubators but I dont know what that means for "my" incubator.  I am sure the environments are different.

I've heard that washed sperm doesn't last as long as natural bding sperm.  I don't know the time limits, but I know I have heard about it on many occassions.  maybe something to look more into.

did you try clomid before gonal f?  I had a great response to clomid but was not getting pregnant so thats why my doc switched me.  100 mg worked for me every month but usually only had 2 follies.  I am hoping the smaller dose of gonal f works for me.  how long after the ovadril trigger did you ovulate?  it looks like you had success only 17 hours iui after shot.  how many rounds of injectibles and iui did it take for you?

hey no problem we are all here for the same reason and we all have questions so dont worry just ask away! My RE office is in Clinton twp and i live in Macomb twp, its like 5 mins from my house so i luv it!

Me and Dh tried for almost 2 years, i was dx with PCOS 2 months after our wedding and than 2 months later again i had to have a D&C for polyps in my uteres at the time i was seeying an OB and i wasent really getting anywhere he just gaved me metformin thinking that it would be enough for me to work..so i decided to see an RE, he put me on clomid, i did clomid for 4 rounds with one failed IUI, out of 4 times i only ovulated once so it wasent really working for me.
He than suggested the injections at first i was a little skeptical, my Dh actually encorauged me, so we went for it but when i did my base u/s and blood work the same night i got a call from the nurse saying that my prolaction levels where to high and my chances of getting pregnant where slim to none and thas why i wasent responding good with clomid, i swear the world just dropped down to my knees, i said thas it first PCOS now prolactin levels, i thought ill never be able to get pregnant, we ended up skipping that month and my RE put me on a new med. for my prolactin, the next month when we did the base u/s and bloow work again i got a call saying that it was now the time the new med. had lowered my prolactin from 42 to 8 which that was perfect!

I started at 75 (im looking at my chart right now) for 3 nights, than they increased it to 150 for 2 nights, than again at 225 for the next 5 days, i got a total of 10 gonal-f injections, like i said i must have used like 3 pens, i still have one that was 225 left on it, i wish i could give it to someone so they can use it, well on cd 15 i took my ovedril injection at 730 pm and on cd16 i went in at noon for my first IUI and than again on cd17 at 11 am for another IUI, my RE reccomended me i due two IUIs back to back, i swear it was the longest cycle i have ever been on and the most expensive i spent a total of $2,400.00 and 2 weeks later BFP!!!

Like i said i would do it all over again if i have to!! im 11 weeks 3 days pregnant today and everthing seems fine.

Sorry if this was too long but i just wanted you to know every step i did, so you can kind of have an idea, beacuse when i started i had no idea what i was doing...lol

If I need another round (hope not) I would absolutely take you up on your offer, do you have gonal f and ovadrel? it would be a shame to let it go to waste especially when you live so close, (I would purchase it from you). When do they expire? Sorry it's been so long.  I just saw your question!    I was referring to frozen sperm vs. fresh.  I'm using Donor sperm because I am single and ttc.  It doesn't last long.  About 12 hrs, if you are lucky up to 24 hrs.  But, fresh washed sperm can live up to 3 days.  Sperm from natural intercourse can last up to 5 days.  I hope this is  real sticky, sticky, baby cycle for you!

so..some good news. I am apparently responding well to the 37.5 dose of gonal f.  today is CD9 and I have an 11, 12, 12.5 and 14 so I go back on Friday and he thinks I will trigger most likely Sat.  I spoke with him about the iui and he said we can comprimise with 24 hours so that makes me feel a little better although I will probably give the shot a bit earlier and shoot for 30ish hours. We will BD on Friday night, iui Sun morn and BD on  Sunday night or Monday morn.  that should cover it.  This makes me crazy!!!!.

update....E2 was only 175 so I think it may be a bit longer than trigger on Friday but I go back tomorrow so we will see what happens. does that E2 make sense with the follies I have?  Not sure....  Maybe trigger on Sun w/iui on Monday. hope so.

so, today brought only one mature follicle. although I dont understand how the 12 and 12.5 only grew to 13.5 each, I cannot help but think that she may have rushed a bit but what can you do. so they had me trigger this morning with iui tomorrow am (27 hours) past trigger and bd on Sunday morning to cover the rest. I know that the whole world gets pg with only one follicle but it is easy to be depressed about it.  I am still hoping that another follicle will grow and make it to the release point. lets cross our fingers....

my docts office woudnt even trigger me if my follies werent at least 19mm, the IUIs that got me pregnant i had 2 follies one measured at 20 and one at 19, 12.5 and 13.5 seems a little too early for me to trigger ...they should have you continue with gonal-f, did you talk to your doctor? im sorry i was just expressing my  opinion i dont want you to think that i know it all but i think that was the reason why they had me continue with gonal-f,  but i really wish you the best and let me know what happens ok good luck.

Well I have one follicle that is 19 when they triggered. the others were 13.5 so I was hoping they would catch up.  at 2mm per day, they could grow to aroung 18 in time to drop.  Wishful thinking I guess.  IUI was this morning so I am hoping that the One good follie will do it.  Although twins would be nice but dh post wash insem was 19.7mil so I am crossing my fingers.  IUI done at 27 hours and we will BD tomorrow morning.  at 48ish hours. wish me luck

hey im glad to hear that things are moving along for you!! YAY! how many days past IUI are you now?  are you having any sympthose at all?

Im ok i just went this morning for my 1 hr glucose test and im really nervous about the results, i wont get them till tomorrow afternoon or monday the waiting is going to kill me, i hope they turn out ok, drinking that juice almost made me sick but i felt ok after it..my mom and my sister are already planning my baby shower for april, i think i get to find out the gender the end of this month, i get an u/s at 16 weeks that will be Jan. 24 im soo excited!!

I am sure you will be fine, I am excited for you. I am officially 6 dp iui.  I cannot help but feel discouraged since I only had one good follie at trigger. I go through this upset phase every month during my 2ww.  The office called me and asked me to make a "whats next" appointment with the doc on Wednesday so that we are prepared just in case I get a BFN. That was a bit upsetting to me because I felt as though they already knew I was not going to be.  I am sure that is not the case but I am also sure that you understand the rollercoaster of emotions and crazy thoughts associated with all of this.  Update coming soon.  hugs

Dont be discouraged the office just does it as a routine just to make sure that if it will be BFN they will know what to do next and you have an app. those clincs get soo busy so fast because its like a day by day thing, things change in matter of minutes.

when i was going in i made sure every cycle i would have a certain time for my husband to go in and dropp off the spems because of his work schedule he cannot be late so they try to help you as much as they can, but dont even worry...and one follie is all you need girl and one good little swimmer just think positive thoughts!!! and im sure everything will turn out fine.

so......AF showed up on CD10....I KNOW!!! way too early.  So much to my dismay I am starting over HOWEVER....I went over some stuff with my doc the other day that bugged me because he was not being very proactive regarding my concerns. like the fact that I only had a 10 day luteal phase this month or the fact that they triggered me with 1 follie and a 192 E2.  He kind of blew me off and put me on Metformin as well.  I was not satisfied with his responses (even though he is really nice) so I told them I needed a month off and went to another clinc for a second opinion.  They actually answered all of my questions and put together a very proactive schedule and said that they would treat me this month if I would like.  So, I figured why not and I am going to give it a shot.  He said with my numbers last month, I had just as good of a shot going home and BDing so at least I know he will be straight forward.  I will see how it goes.  How did your appt go yesterday?

hey im sorry about af showing up for you..thas a bummer i know how you must feel...but im glad you went to another doctor for a different opinion..by the time i found my re i went to see like 3 different ones..and here i am today.

Metformin works great at the begginin you might get some side effects from it but it will help you. About ur luteal being only 10 days i dont know it makes me think that you might have a luteal difect and that can be easy fixed you should ask your new doctor about it!

My app. was scarry...i got a bunch of bad news im still in shocked.
First of all the stupid nurse coudnt find the babys heart beat with the doppler...than my doctor told me i failed my 1 hr glucose test by a lot it was 230...so she told me that even if i do the 3 hr one i will problably still fail being that the 1 hr was so high..so she wants me to go see a high risk OB and it sucks..than she also told me im enimic very low irion and she put me on meds for that...i just went back this morning for the 3 hr test we shall see what happens...and ohh i did get an u/s did day and the baby was just fine and the HB was 143!!!! thas the  only thing i was actually happy about!

On Saturday I was at CD13 and had five mature follicles, 28,26,22,17,18.  My doctor gave me a trigger shot between 9 and 9:30am.  DH and I BD that night and the following day I had my IUI around 11 am.  I had planned on BDing that night but I had terrible cramping pains from that IUI.  I hope that I am still in the running.  I cannot never feel when I O.  I only had that experience one time in my life history.

Of course you are in the running. You had GREAT follicles and the iui was 26 hours later.  you have a great chance.  so that would put 4dpo in your 2ww.  Let us know how it goes.  I will most likely trigger on Friday and IUI sat and sun. we will see. good luck.

Saturday had 4 follies with 398 E2 (so 2 to 3 maturing eggs) but would still rise up until ovulaton. Trigger shot that night with IUI on Sunday and Monday.  For some reason, DH post wash was pretty low this time. 3.9 post (117 million pre) so that makes me worry but then I think about it and only a couple of THOUSAND make it to the uterus after intercourse for if 3.9 million made it through IUI does'nt that seem pretty good??? I dont get it.  The first RE said above 2 million is good and the new one says 5 million (but said 3.9 was not bad) so my iuis will be 16 and 40 hours. hope it works.

GOOOD Luck mayasmom...!! I am 35 and ttc for 5 years.  Dx'd with PCOS and was a clomid failure. Just finished one round of follistim started on 75 ended with 150 on day 10 no follicles growing at all .. :( SO we are starting a new cycle with gonal F 37.5 and I am starting metformin.. Any one of heard of someone having success after not having any follies grow at all .. I AM COMPLETELY broken?? SOOO frustrating .. everyone around me is pregnant or has just given birth and most by accident.. even though im happy for the girls IT IS FRUSTRATING to say the least... I cannot say I think that zero follicles will work but I CAN say that gonal f should help you  a lot although 37.5 is the most mild dose so do not get discouraged if it appears to not be working that great at first. My first cycle was not great (37.5 for 7 days) but my second cycle I did 150 for 6 days and it worked so much better. I had 4 follies with at least 2 if not 3 eggs so give this a fair shot before getting worried.  I understand the frustration.....ALL of my friends are pregnant!!!.  As far as listening..no problem, keep me updated.

OMG.......BFP!!!!!! I am 14 days past shot and 12 dpo and BFP!!!!.  The shot has to be gone by now and I took a test two days ago that was so faint, I almost thought I was seeing things and today it was OBVIOUS so I am sure it is not the shot. Plus the shot has ALWAYS showed a negative test 8-10 days after shot.  So if it was the shot the other day, it should have been GONE by today NOT darker!!!!!.  I called the doc to see what they want me to do now. waiting for call.  I cant believe this..............I will keep you posted. anyway......BOY or GIRL for you???  hugs.

Mine where 309 at 14dpo i problably did have twins..i ened up int he hospital at almost 7 weeks because i was bleeding i was told i was having a misscarriage but when we did an u/s we saw the HB till this day my doctors say we will never really know what happend but i was told that maybe i had twins and i lost one :( but im furtune to have my little guy waiting to come out!!

hgc today was 392 up 69% which they said it should increase AT LEAST 66% so I am still good.  I am not out of the woods yet but a bit closer. I have an ultrasound next wednesday to find sac.......will let you know. thank you for being so supportive this whole time. You have been great!!! hugs

My RE explained to me that you want the sperm to be waiting for the egg to arrive. That is why trigger at night IUI the following morning.  12-16 hours post trigger.
And BD days following.
You don't want to miss it.
If you can BD after there's no worries.
